A funeral Mass for Kathryn Messmer, 91, of Dickinson will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 18, 2018 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with Father Bill Ruelle celebrating. Entombment will take place in the Dickinson Mausoleum.
Visitation for Kathryn will be from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at Stevenson Funeral Home with a rosary and vigil service being held at 7:00 p.m.
Kathryn passed away Thursday, July 12, 2018.
Kathryn was born August 14, 1926 in Richardton, the daughter of Frank and Meta Ann (Dassinger) Scholz. She grew up in a home filled with seven siblings and she attended school through the ninth grade. On November 16, 1948, Kathryn became Mrs. Robert H. Messmer at St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church in Lefor. The couple made their home on a farm east of Lefor. They were blessed with two sons, James and Robert and two daughters, Donnalene and Kathleen. Kathryn and Robert proudly raised registered Angus cattle. In 1988, they built a home outside of Dickinson and it is has been home for Kathryn since then. She was a devoted farmwife and mother through the years. Robert passed away in 2010, making Kathryn his bride for nearly 62 years. Kathryn enjoyed gardening, cooking, baking, and reading. She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, the local Homemakers Club, and a lifetime member of Christian Mothers.
Kathryn is survived by her daughters, Donnalene (Leon) Spitzer of Fargo and Kathy (Dean) Pfleger of Bismarck; sons, James Messmer (Sandy Knutson) of Lefor and Robert Messmer of Richardton; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and brother, Victor (Caroline) Scholz of Richardton.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert; brothers, Frank and John Scholz; sisters, Annie Rebel, Helen Wehner, Eleanor Gaab, and Rose Marie Scholz.
