Kay passed away on Monday, August 20, 2007 at Fallon Medical Complex in Baker after a courageously fought battle with cancer. Kay Joanne Kohler was born on April 28, 1943, the daughter of Richard George and Signe Mathilda (Jensen) Kohler in Williston, ND. As a young child, Kay moved with her family to Miles City, MT and various other communities in Eastern Montana before settling in Baker. Kay attended grade school in Baker and Baker High School. After high school, Kay began a long term relationship with Gene Stanley. After their marriage, Kay and Gene left Baker and moved to New Mexico where they made their home. After her marriage to Gene ended, Kay met and married Gary Hammargren. After a short time, their marriage ended, and Kay returned to Baker where she continued to make her home. Kay worked at various local establishments as a waitress, and eventually went to work as an RA at Fallon Medical Complex a few years ago, and worked there until her illness forced her to retirement. Kay enjoyed working in her yard, making ceramics, fishing and playing cards with her friends and family. Of course Kay?s rules applied during the card games! Her dogs were her children, but her greatest enjoyment in life was her friends and family. She is survived by two sisters, Noreen (Bill) Stewart, Oak View, CA and Judy (Floyd) Richmond, Baker, MT; a brother-in-law, Russell Burdick, Baker, MT and numerous nieces and nephews. Kay is preceded in death by her parents, a son in infancy, her three brothers, Richard Jerry, Nathan Danny and Thomas Dale and her sister Susan Burdick. Arrangements are under the direction of Stevenson Funeral Home of Baker, MT.
