Kenneth Heck passed away in his home on January 22nd, 2024.
He was born in Dickinson, ND on October 23rd, 1948. He was born to Anton Heck and Monica (Froehlich) Heck. He was raised on the family farm south of Belfield with 3 brothers and 5 sisters. At the age of 16, he began working in the oilfield, where he earned the nickname, Pup, due to his young age.
In 1968 Kenny volunteered for service, joining the Army and spending time in Germany then Vietnam, where he drove fuel trucks. After his military service he returned home to help on the family farm and work in the oilfield. In 1977 he met his wife Susan and they were married in May of 1978. They had three beautiful children and raised them in the home they built together in Belfield. Ken and Susan went on to start Ken’s Trucking which became Kenny’s primary profession for the next 40 years. Kenny worked hard to provide for his family while doing a job that he loved.
Ken liked to spent his free time building things with powerful engines. His most well known accomplishments include a power puller, bringing home multiple first place trophies and a V8 motorcycle. He was also an avid motorcycle rider and looked forward to taking his bike out for a ride as much as possible. He would take his children on rides when they were young, even fashioning a “safety belt” to keep them on the seat if they fell asleep. Last summer he was able to take a multi-state ride with friends, visiting western Montana, Idaho and Wyoming. Ken was also a well known pool shark in the area. While teaching his children how to play on the family pool table, he would allow them a shot or two then proceed to clean the table. Needless to say, playing against him was more of an exhibition match rather than a competition. In his later years, Kenny and his wife Susan enjoyed spending time with their grandchildren, attending the kids concerts and sporting events.
No matter what adversity life put in front of Kenny, he always looked past it, working on a solution or a new idea. He always seemed to be building something or thinking of ways to make something work better.
Kenny is survived by his wife Susan (Buzalsky), his daughter Kristine and sons, Raymond (Alicia) and Brian. Grandchildren Jett, Jaclynn, and Juliana. Siblings Ray Heck, Bernice Poliandro, Florence Haugen, Esther Vance, Charlene Johnson, Jeanne Mann, and Eddy Heck.
He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Herbert Heck.
