Kenneth Steier

Funeral services for Kenneth Wayne Steier, 56, of Dickinson will be 1:00 p. m. Tuesday, March 9, 2010, at St. Patrick?s Catholic Church in Dickinson with Father Todd Kreitinger celebrating. Burial will take place at St. Joseph?s Cemetery. Visitation will be 11:00 a. m. to 9:00 p. m. Monday, March 8, 2010, with a Rosary and Vigil Service at 7:00 p. m. at Stevenson Funeral Home in Dickinson. Ken passed away Wednesday, March 3, 2010, at his home southeast of Dickinson with his mother at his side. Kenneth Wayne Steier was born May 17, 1953, to Clemens and Dorothy (Dolechek) Steier in Dickinson, ND. He grew up on the family farm 15 miles southeast of Dickinson. He attended St. Pius Grade school in Schefield, ND, before graduating from Lefor High School in 1972. After graduation, he worked at various companies in Dickinson, most notably Beaudoin Concrete and Diamond Equipment Company. Later, Kenneth worked at D&D Machine Shop in Belfield. During this time he raced cars at Hustlers Dragway in Glendive, MT. He was an extremely good mechanic and would make modifications when replacement parts were not available. Upon the death of his father, Clemens, in 1992, he took over the farming operation with his mother, Dorothy. Kenneth loved farming and living in the country. He enjoyed all farm animals and had a fondness for pigs. At one time, he had a pet pig that acted more like a farm dog. Often, the pig could be seen napping on an old car seat cushion by the garage door as Ken worked on motors. Ken was a competent handyman and there wasn?t anything that he couldn?t fix. He was also a good cook and had learned to make many German dough and bean dishes. He is survived by his mother, Dorothy Steier, Dickinson; brother, Vernon (Dianne) Steier, Prior Lake, MN; sister, Brenda (Mike) Olinger, Grapevine, TX; two nieces, Deana (Casey) Ousley, Watauga, TX, and Dorinda (Adam) Kutzler, Northfield, MN; and one great-nephew, Caden. Ken was preceded in death by his father, Clemens, and his grandparents. Family suggests memorials to a memorial mass or to the Heartland Hospice. He is survived by his mother, Dorothy Steier, Dickinson; brother, Vernon (Dianne) Steier, Prior Lake, MN; and sister, Brenda (Mike) Olinger, Grapevine, TX.
