Kent Wing was born July 6, 1948 in Dickinson, the son of Ira and Viola (Olson) Wing. Due to having cerebral palsy, he attended the Anne Carlsen Crippled Children?s School in Jamestown, ND from age 5 to 11 years. He would reside at the family ranch west of the Killdeer Mountains during holidays and summers. He loved attending the Elks Camp Grassick in the summers for almost 50 years. He continued to reside with his family, receiving in-home education, attending rodeos, Saturday night movies, and his brothers? sports activities. Family became unable to continue to care for Kent at home, so he resided at the Hillside Baptist Home and Missouri Slope Lutheran Home from 1975 ? 1990. He was then accepted into a group home for persons with developmental disabilities in Dickinson. Kent has resided in his own apartment since 1991 up until his death with the support of Stark County Social Services, N. D. Easter Seals, Support Systems, Inc. , and Badlands Human Service Center Case Management Services. Kent was proud to be able to advocate for his rights and the rights of others with disabilities through contact and support with the ND Protection and Advocacy, Dakota Center for Independent Living, Inc. , and People First. Kent dreamed of traveling. By saving from his limited income and having support from his assisted living staff, Kent was able to go to Hawaii three times, and to Florida. He was a loved and respected friend of the Jehovah Witnesses. Kent was baptized as one of Jehovah?s Witnesses on November 14, 1989. He enjoyed their acceptance and support and his ability to participate and attend assemblies and conventions of the Jehovah?s Witness. He drew strength from his faith in God.
