Kermit Noel Krauth, age 72, of Mead ,WA passed away Friday, July 27, 2007 in a Spokane, WA hospital. Burial of his ashes in the St. John Cemetery will be private on August 18 in Hebron, ND. Kermit was born December 24, 1934 in Hebron, North Dakota to Kurt H. and Idah (Johnson) Krauth. Kermit was baptized and confirmed in St. John E and R Church in Hebron. He attended the Hebron Public School, graduating from Hebron High School in 1952. Kermit attended Jamestown College and then in 1954 he enlisted in the U. S. Army. His basic training was at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri and then he was sent to Orleans, France until September1956. Kermit managed Kermit?s Jack and Jill grocery store in Hebron from 1956 -1960 when he moved to Pleasant Hill, California to work for Payless Grocery. In 1969 he transferred to an Albertson?s store in Spokane Washington and worked for Albertson?s until he retired in 1998, after 38 years of service. In 1958 Kermit married Betty Swoboda and they had two children, Kay Marie and Kurt Charles. Kermit was an avid sports fan. Having played basketball and baseball he never tired of going to games or watching them on TV. He was happy that his children were also involved with sports as are his grandchildren. He enjoyed watching grandsons, Craig and Cory play hockey and granddaughter Kaileene play basketball and softball. Having tea parties with granddaughter ?doodlebug? Korel was also a treat for him. He always had ?Smarties? handy to give to the children in line at the check-out counter. After he retired he was a teacher?s aide once a week at Farwell Elementary School. Kermit always had time for children, whether his own or those he met while working for Albertson?s or volunteering at Farwell School. Kermit liked to have fun and always brought a smile to those around him. Those left to mourn his loss are his children, Kay (Tom) Grote, Deer Park, WA and Kurt (Laura) Krauth, Mead, WA; his four grandchildren Craig (Angie) Grote, Mead, WA, Cory (Erin) Grote, Deer Park, WA, Kaileene Krauth and Korel Krauth, both of Mead, WA and five great-grandchildren Brittannie Grote, Jenna Grote, Preston Grote, Mead, WA and Parker Grote and Paige Grote, Deer Park, WA. Kermit is also survived by two brothers, Charles (Charlotte) Krauth, Jamestown, ND, Kenneth (Lois) Krauth Concord, CA and two sisters, Carol (Harry) Krieg, Central Point, OR and Karen Krauth, Bismarck, ND. He will also be missed by his nieces and nephews and many friends. Kermit was preceded in death by his parents Kurt and Idah Krauth.
