Kevin passed away Friday, November 24, 2017, surrounded by family at ICU Sanford Health after a brief illness.
Kevin was born August 4, 1955 in Langdon, North Dakota, the son of Larry and Jean Charbonneau. His father, Larry, served in the border patrol so Kevin moved around some in his younger years including time in New Jersey and Texas. He spent most of his youth growing up in Northeast North Dakota and Northwest Minnesota, graduating from Pembina High School in 1973.
He served in the US Coast Guard from 1973 to 1977 in New York and Oregon. His electronics training gave him an uncanny ability to fix most electronic equipment. Appliance repair was one of the jobs that helped him work his way through school at UND. He obtained his Bachelors Degree in Business in 1983. After graduation he moved to Fargo and worked in appliance sales and repair. After that he moved into RV and boat sales at McLaughlin RV.
Eventually he moved to Bismarck and continued his career in RV sales. He met Deb Zillich in 1997 while working at Capital RV. Eventually he headed west, buying a house in Richardton to be closer to his sweetie. After several ventures selling insurance in the Dickinson area, he got another opportunity to sell RV’s; first for Dan Porter Motors and finally for Roughrider RV.
He had many adventures with Deb through the years. He learned to love to ski with Deb and they went on many ski trips, primarily to Big Sky MT with great friends, Mark and Karen Amann. They also had many other vacation getaways. He was a fan of UND Sioux Hockey, NDSU Bison football, MN Vikings football and recently Philadelphia Eagles football. After moving west he also joined Deb at DSU Blue Hawk sporting events.
Kevin was an avid outdoorsman, loving to hunt, fish, golf and camp. He had enjoyable times gathering with his family out on the “land” at their deer camp. In recent years he put a camper out at Lake Tschida and spent many weekends enjoying the lake. He was also a dog lover and had many dogs through the years. His latest addition was Zoey, a sweet goldendoodle who he was looking forward to training to hunt.
Kevin is survived by his soulmate of 20 years, Deb Zillich. He leaves his parents, Larry and Jean Charbonneau of Pembina, ND as well as seven siblings; Arma (Darrell) Haseleu, Fargo, ND, Lauren (Debbie) Charbonneau, Huntsville, TX, Craig Charbonneau, Grand Forks, ND, Keith Charbonneau, Mapleton, ND, Mary (David) Soergel, Fargo, ND, Cecilia (Bruce) Lysne, Crookston, MN, and Donna (Pat) Burton, Pembina, ND as well as many nieces and nephews. He also leaves Deb’s family, Frank Zillich (his fishing buddy) and Randy (Carla) Zillich and their kids who loved him like family.
