Konston Schumacher, age 78, of Glen Ullin died Tuesday, August 29, 2006 at the Marian Manor Healthcare Center in Glen Ullin. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:00 AM CDT on Friday, Sept. 1, 2006 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glen Ullin with the Rev. Sebastian Schmidt, OSB as Celebrant. Burial will be at 11:00 AM CDT at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery south of Mandan. Visitation will begin on Thursday at 4:00 PM at Sacred Heart Church with Vigil Services at 7:00 PM. Konston was born May 30, 1928 in the St. Benedict area north of Glen Ullin the son of Anton and Eva (Zahn) Schumacher. He was raised and educated in that area. He married Lauretta Freitag on July 29, 1952 in Glen Ullin. Shortly after their marriage Konston entered the US Army on October 29, 1952 and served in Korea. Following discharge on October 22, 1954 he returned to the Glen Ullin area and worked for various farmers and in construction. In 1965 he went to work for the Burlington Northern Railroad and remained with them until he retired in 1990 after 25 years of service. Konston, a self taught musician, enjoyed playing accordion and several other musical instruments. He also enjoyed woodworking and old time music. His greatest joy in life was spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Lauretta, Glen Ullin; two daughters: Marge (Robert) Thomas, Glen Ullin, ND; Carletta (Terry) Meuchel, Hebron, ND; and six sons: Alvin, Havre, MT; Charles (Pam), Hebron, ND; Robert, Donald, Jeff (Sherry), and Bill, all of Glen Ullin, ND. 13 grandchildren: Amber and Lindsey Schumacher, Tara, Travis (Alicia), and Tasha Thomas, Cody and Jordan Schumacher, Jessie and Jeremy Schumacher, Gerald and Shantel Meuchel, and Mindy and Ricco Gonzales; as well as two great grandchildren: Taya and Tyus Thomas. He also leaves one brother: Mike (Cecelia) Schumacher, Bismarck, ND; one sister: Teresa Kottre, Missoula, MT; and one brother-in-law: Alvin Schneider, Bismarck, ND. Konston was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters: Maggie Schneider, Agnes Fischer, Mary Doering, and Marie Schumacher.
