Lana Christina Marie Benedict was born September 14, 1977 in Bowman, ND to Paul and Vickie (Lossing) Benedict. She grew up and attended school in Baker graduating from Baker High School in 1996. Lana met Arlin Shipstead while in High School. Following graduation, the couple moved to Rapid City, SD where Lana attended Beauty School. Lana and Arlin were married on July 20, 1996 in Baker, MT. To this union MaKenzy and Lillian were born. Together they raised and cared for their children in Baker.

Lana was an exceptional artist, both with painting and drawing. Lana had a love for make-up and fishing-but not from a boat. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed spending her time around her family. While visiting with her family, Lana loved to twirl their hair. She had so much love for her HUGE family. Lana enjoyed gardening and eating the fresh vegetables that she grew. She also loved her animals as well as the many strays that showed up at her doorstep. Lana was confirmed at a young age and was a member of American Lutheran Church for several years.

Lana is survived by her mother, Vickie (John) Bailey; father, Paul Benedict; husband, Arlin Shipstead; children, MaKenzy Shipstead, Lillian Shipstead; brothers, Josh Benedict, James “Bud” Benedict, and Sheldon (Jessica) Benedict; sisters, Sarah (Brandon) Melchior and Lesslie (Chance) Krausz; brother-in-law, Tadus (Cole) Shipdstead; sister-in-law, Korina Shipstead; father-in-law, Gary Shipstead; and nieces and nephews, Mazzie (Payton), Griffin, Cobin, Madi, Grace, Jason, Sylis, and Ben.
