Funeral Mass for Larry Michael Schafer, 63, of Glen Ullin will be 9:30 a. m. CDT, Thursday, May 6, 2010, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glen Ullin with Father Arul Joseph celebrating. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00 p. m. to 9:00 p. m. CDT, Wednesday, May 5, 2010, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with a Rosary & Vigil Service at 7:00 p. m. Visitation will continue on Thursday, May 6, 2010, for one hour prior to the service. Larry passed away Monday, May 3, 2010, at his home in Glen Ullin. Larry Michael Schafer was born on October 11, 1946, to Matt and Mary (Lang) Schafer in Mandan, ND. He grew up and attended school in Glen Ullin and graduated from high school in Glen Ullin. He enlisted in the North Dakota National Guard on January 30, 1967, and was stationed at Fort Leonard Wood, MO. He was honorably discharged on November 11, 1971. Larry began his career as a meat cutter for Schafer?s Meat Market in Glen Ullin. He moved to Dickinson, where he worked for King?s Super Valu. In 1973, Larry married Patty Kostelecky, and to this union two children were born, Scott and Amy. Larry opened Schafer?s Meat Market in Dickinson, which he operated for five years. After several other meat cutting positions, he returned to Glen Ullin, where he still cut meat at the Glen Ullin Super Valu, until the time of his death. He enjoyed fishing, watching Minnesota Twins baseball and Minnesota Vikings football. Larry also enjoyed dealing cards for the AFW, coin collecting, pitching softball and fishing in many tournaments throughout the Glen Ullin area. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Larry?s big smile will be missed by many. Larry is survived by a son, Scott (Nicole) Schafer, Dickinson; a daughter Amy (Josh) Dohrmann, Dickinson; five sisters, Irene (Leo) Erhart, Belle Fourche, SD, Polly Fitterer, Glen Ullin, ND, Lillian (Frank) Dinius, Phoenix, AZ, Joan (Ken) Meier, Northfield, MN, and Patty (Gordon) Kroh, Glen Ullin, ND; one brother, Leo (Lena) Schafer, Dickinson, numerous nieces and nephews and many special friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Arlene Schmautz, Claudia Kobilansky, and Violet Karch; and two brothers, John Schafer and Duane Schafer.
