Larry passed away Friday, December 29, 2017 at Sanford Health in Bismarck.

Larry Duane was born May 30, 1943 at the Stang Family farmhouse near Regent, the son of Leonard and Lorraine (Hoffer) Stang.  As a young boy, he attended Wagendorf School #1 and graduated from New England High School in 1961.  He enlisted in the US Army in 1961. After being honorably discharged Larry returned to the farm south of New England. Farming and ranching was at the heart of Larry.  His life revolved around the farm.  On October 6, 1963, Larry married Ruth Bieber in Mott, ND.  The couple was blessed with three children: Jamie, Shannay, and Jonathan.  Together they raised their family on the family farm.  Larry enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling and woodworking. He especially loved farming, gardening and yardwork.  Larry was on the council for Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church in New England and St. John Lutheran Church in Dickinson. He served as a board member for ND Grain Growers, Southwest Water, and Hettinger Co. Crop Improvement. Larry was a member of Spring Wheat Bakers, El Zagel Shrine, Rocky Mountain Elk, and the Masons. He was also a national committee member of Pheasants Forever. Larry’s passion away from the farm was his dedication to the Elks.  Along with being a lifetime member of the Dickinson Elks Lodge #1137, he also served as a trustee and was awarded state elk of the year for volunteering countless hours to his lodge and Camp Grassick. Larry and Ruth moved into Dickinson in 2000 and retired from farming in 2017.

Larry is survived by his wife, Ruth; children, Jamie (Dave) Stang-Kusner, son, Tristan, of Shorewood, MN, Shannay (Keith) Witte, children, Alex, and Stephanie of Regent and Jonathan (Robin) Stang and children Mason, Carter, Brittney (Corbin) Smith, and Aaron Bullinger of Regent; brother, Dennis (LaVonne) Stang of New England; sisters, Dianna (Hugo) Hanson of New England, Donna Stang-Rustan of New England; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Lorraine Stang; and brother, Leon Stang.
