Laurence D. Lambert, 60, of Ekalaka, passed away suddenly at his ranch on Wednesday, May 7, 2003. Laurence was born December 20, 1942 in Miles City, the son of William and Vera (Schnee) Lambert. He grew up and attended school in Ekalaka. In 1960, he enlisted into the US Air Force at Los Angeles, CA. Laurence was honorably discharged in 1964 at Minot AFB, ND. After leaving the service, he began work for various ranchers in Carter County. Laurence married Sandra Jeanne Hatfield in 1964 and to this union were two children, Monty and Monica. They moved to Miles City to work on oil rigs there before moving back to Ekalaka to continue ranching. Laurence and Sandra later divorced. He married Johnella LaBree on September 11, 1970 in Miles City. They had three children: Kola, Kelli, and Larry. Laurence was employed with the Montana State Prison in Deer Lodge from 1970 until 1982. They moved to Moorcroft, WY in ’82, where he managed an explosives plant near Gillette, until 1994. They then came back to Ekalaka and made their home at the John LaBree ranch. Laurence had a great sense of humor and loved the outdoors. Among his many interests included hunting, fishing, camping and gambling at Deadwood. He loved the time spent with his many grandchildren. The highlight of his last day was the birth of his fourteenth grandchild that morning, beautiful Malainy Lambert. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Laurence is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, William Bill” Lambert. He is survived by his loving wife Johnella of Ekalaka; two sons: Monty (Gayle) Lambert of Deer Lodge and Larry (Terra) of Moorcroft WY; three daughters: Monica (Jim) Waisanen of Las Vegas NV Kola Kuehn (friend Mike Clark) of Gillette WY and Kelli Lambert (finance James Donahue); two brothers: Everett (Joy) Lambert of Paso Robles CA and Norman (Carol) Lambert of Broadus MT; two sisters: Lois Engel of Rapid City SD and Phillis (Don) Seaman of Spearfish SD; fourteen grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation hours will begin Sunday May 11 from 4 PM until 7 PM and continue Monday from 9 AM until 12 PM at the Stevenson Funeral Home in Ekalaka. Funeral Services will take place on Monday May 12 at 2 PM at the Carter County High School Gymnasium. Burial will follow at the Beaverlodge Cemetery. A reception will be held at the Parish Hall following the graveside services.
