Funeral services for Laurine Engel, 99, of Dickinson, will be 9:00 a. m., Saturday, September 14, 2013 at St. John Lutheran Church in Dickinson with Pastor Cal Oraw officiating. Burial will follow in Dickinson Cemetery.
Visitation for Laurine will be 1:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m , Friday, September 13, 2013 at Stevenson Funeral Home in Dickinson. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at St. John Lutheran Church on Saturday.
Laurine passed away Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at St. Benedict’s Health Center in Dickinson.
Laurine Kesting was born April 3, 1914 in Blue Earth County, Minnesota, the daughter of William and Clara (Pick) Kesting. In 1916, the family moved from southern Minnesota to Dickinson. Laurine met and courted Cleon Engel for 12 years, who farmed with his family in Minnesota. Laurine and Cleon were married on October 22, 1962 in Pine City, Minnesota. The couple made their home in Dickinson where they began farming with her brothers and also helped out with Kesting Lumber Company. Laurine founded the Engel Kesting Foundation which supports eight local charities. She was a very sharp business woman throughout her life, keeping her checkbook balanced to date, at the age of 99. Laurine enjoyed putting in a large garden and sharing the produce with friends and neighbors. She always found joy in giving to others. She also enjoyed flowers, cooking, reading and collecting Hummels as well as dishes from Germany. Laurine was the oldest living confirmed member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Dickinson.
Laurine is survived by her daughter, Marge Odiorne and grandson, Charles Odiorne of Lakewood, CO; close friends and neighbors, Joe Pasicznyk, Del Gab and Bruce Selinger.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Cleon Engel; sister, Luella Sams; brothers, William and Arnold Kesting; and grandson, Robert Odiorne.
