Funeral service for LaVonne Maxine Hunter, 75, of Almont will be 2:00 p.m. CST, Friday, February 24, 2012 at Almont United Lutheran Church, Almont, ND with Pastor VanVechten Crane officiating. Burial will follow in the Almont Cemetery.
Visitation for LaVonne will be from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., Friday, February 24, 2012 at the Almont United Lutheran Church.
LaVonne passed away Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at MedCenter One in Bismarck.
LaVonne Maxine (Ritz) Hunter was born on May 25, 1936 on a farm south of New Salem, the daughter of Claude and Minnie (Fulton) Ritz. She graduated from Almont High School in 1954 and attended Dickinson State Teachers College where she received her two year teaching certificate. Later, she attended Mary College where she received her four year teaching degree. LaVonne taught for five years in country schools in the Almont area before teaching in the Almont Public Schools for 30 years. On June 7, 1961, LaVonne and Leonard Hunter were married in Almont, ND. During her teaching career, LaVonne was a member of the Mandan Public Schools Evaluation Team, the Advisory Council for the North Dakota Heritage Center, and was a member of the Policy Board for the Reorganization of Small Schools in Morton County while serving as the acting principal and superintendent for Almont. In 1991, LaVonne retired from teaching. LaVonne had a passion for teaching and enjoyed every minute of it. She taught many children throughout her career and enjoyed talking about how great it was when a former student would recognize her, call her Mrs. Hunter and thank her for being their teacher. LaVonne enjoyed trying her hand at “Lady Luck”. She made many trips to the casino with family and friends trying to win the “jackpot”. In her younger years, LaVonne enjoyed fishing, playing cards and Bingo. She was very proud of her three grandchildren and loved to share stories about them.
LaVonne is survived by her loving daughter, Laurie of Almont; three grandchildren, Kelsey, Jarrett and Jayden all of Almont; two-step daughters, Linda and her children, Keith and Shannon, and Judy (John) Frohlich and their children, Darren, Eric, Sean, Elizabeth and Stephanie; her brother, Marvin (Carol) Ritz; sister, Jan (Len) Olson; sister-in-law, Bonnie Ritz; brother-in-law, Wally Schulte; many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leonard; twin brother, LeRoy Ritz; sister, Audrey Striegel Schulte; brother-in-law, Cleon Striegel and a nephew, Dennis Striegel.
