Funeral Mass for Lawrence E. Renner, 87, of Almont, ND will be 10:00 a. m. (CST), Tuesday, December 8, 2009 at St. Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Almont, ND with Father Amalraj Roche celebrating. Burial will be in the Almont Cemetery, Almont, ND with Military Rites performed by Almont Legion. Visitation will be 3:00 p. m. ? 4:00 p. m. (CST), Monday, December 7, 2009 at Elm Crest Manor in New Salem, ND and will continue from 5:00 p. m. ? 9:00 p. m. , (CST), Monday at Spangelo- Stevenson Funeral Home in Glen Ullin, ND with a Rosary and Vigil Service at 7:30 p. m. (CST). Lawrence passed away Thursday, December 3, 2009 at the Elm Crest Manor in New Salem, ND. Lawrence Renner was born July 22, 1922, the eldest son born to John and Mary (Tkach) Renner. He attended school and farmed in the Glen Ullin area and on February 17, 1944 married Julia (Goldie) Stiler in Richardton, ND. Lawrence was drafted into the Army in November 1944 and honorably discharged in October 1946. Lawrence was present on the USS Missouri the day Japan signed the surrender in WWII. He came home from the Army and farmed in the Glen Ullin and Almont area, then in 1963 moved into Almont. He drove milk truck, school bus and worked at the Farmer?s Supply Inc. until he began driving the local mail routes which he did for 38 years, retiring in 2000. He was very involved and loved the community of Almont, having been mayor for a number of years. He was active in the American Legion, serving as Commander of Morton County Civil Defense Director for 15 years, Morton County Housing Authority, volunteered for Almont ambulance and fire department or anything else the town needed help with. He is survived by 4 children, Mary (Tharen) Kilen, Mandan; Daniel (Donna) Renner, Bismarck; Kathy (Dean) Bachler, Almont and Julie (Brad) Timpe, Bismarck; a sister, Alice (LeRoy) Thomas, Missoula, MT; 2 brothers, Eddy (Theresa) Renner, Jim (Theresa) Renner both of Glen Ullin; 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Goldie; his parents; 1 brother, Ernie; 1 sister, Eleanor; 2 sons, Larry and Tommy and 1 grandson, David. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
