Lela Lavonne (Juhl) Lind passed away on Saturday, December 27, 2014 at Hilltop Home of Comfort in Killdeer, North Dakota. Lela was born in St. Paul, Minnesota on March 30, 1925. She was the daughter of Charles and Magdalena (Kaiser) Juhl. At the age of 8 years of age she was sent to live with her Aunt Tina and Uncle Orv in St. Joseph, Missouri. She later moved to Severance, Colorado and attended High School in Denver, Colorado. After High School she worked as a Telephone Operator. On October 2, 1948 she married Wilhelm “Willie” Lind in Raton, New Mexico. They farmed west of Severance, Colorado until they moved to Killdeer, North Dakota where they continued to raise their family. There they owned and operated a cattle sales barn and a ranch. Lela was the secretary at the cattle sales barn for many years. Later in life she worked for Home Health and Hospice. Lela was devoted to her children and grandchildren. She was “Grandma” to everyone. She loved spending time with them and was always thinking of something fun to do. She enjoyed oil painting, gardening, fishing, horse back riding and was an exceptional cook. She was involved in the local Homemaker’s Club and enjoyed quilting at St. John’s Lutheran Church. Lela is survived by her sons, Alan and Bruce (Shelly) Lind both of Killdeer, North Dakota and her daughter Mona (Brad) Norton of New Salem, North Dakota; her grandchildren Garrat (Shinee) Lind, Amanda (Ryan Thompson) Lind and great grandchild Marshal John Thompson, Wil (Kimberly) Norton, and Megan Norton; sisters Betty “Pam” Vandenheuval of Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Jean Langdon of Missouri. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Magdalena Juhl; her husband, Willie Lind; infant son Gerry; and brothers Max Juhl and Gordon Juhl. The family suggests memorials be made to Fellowship Quilters of Killdeer, ND or Hilltop Home of Comfort.
