Funeral Mass for Leo Jahner, 86, of Dickinson will be 10:00 a. m. , Wednesday, June 12, 2013 at Queen of Peace Catholic Church with Father Shannon Lucht celebrating. Burial will be in the North Dakota Veteran’s Cemetery in Mandan. Military Rites will be presented by the Dickinson Honor Guard. Visitation will be Tuesday, June 11, 2013 from 1:00 p. m. to 8:00 p. m. with a Rosary and Vigil Service being held at 7:00 p. m. at Stevenson Funeral Home, Dickinson. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the Mass on Wednesday. Leo passed away on Friday, June 7, 2013 at the St. Benedicts Health Center in Dickinson. Leo Jahner was born May 14, 1927 at New England, the son of Vincent and Rose (Sticka) Jahner. He was raised and attended St. Mary’s Elementary School in New England, St. Pius High School in Sheffield and later Wahpeton State School of Science. Leo was drafted in November 1945 into the Army at Ft. Snelling, MN and later transferred to the Army Air Force as a radio operator mechanic on C47’s and C54’s. He was honorably discharged in 1946 from Westover Field, MA. On November 22, 1954, Leo married Ivela (Kolling) Jahner in St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Dickinson. To this union, Nancy, Tom, Jim and Peggy were born. Leo learned the bricklaying trade and was incorporated with Kolling Construction from 1954 to 1972. He then started his own business, Leo Jahner Masonry. For 18 years, he laid brick in every town and city within 150 miles of Dickinson, retiring in 1991 due to his health. Leo was elected and held his office as Stark County Commissioner from 1991 to 2002. He was also appointed to the Stark County Social Service Board and the Southwest Health District Board. Leo enjoyed golfing, baseball, puzzles, playing cards, traveling and spending time with his family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Leo was a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church. He was a member of Elks, German Hungarian Club, Knights of Columbus and the American Legion Club. Leo is survived by his wife, Ivela; daughters, Nancy (Steve) Kienzle of Dickinson and Peggy (Matt) Perila of Eden Prairie, MN; sons, Tom (Pam) Jahner of Bismarck and Jim (Kari) Jahner of Dickinson; six grandchildren, Dana (Matt) Lonn, Natalie (Jamon) Lonnberg, Lauren Perila, Mitch Perila, Rachel Jahner, Willy Jahner; three great-grandchildren, Bennet Lonn, Annika Lonn and Jax Lonnberg; sisters, Eugenia Herauf of Dickinson and Mary Ann (Bob) Anner of Sun Lakes, AZ; brother-in-law, Richard Booke of Lewiston, ID; sister-in-law, Eloise Jahner, NC. He was preceded in death by his parents, Vincent and Rose; brothers, Mike (Ann) Jahner, Ralph (Eleanor) Jahner, Paul (Pat) Jahner and Vince Jahner; sisters, Tillie Booke and Pauline (Vernon) Kirscher. Family requests that memorials be made to Dickinson Catholic Schools.
