Leona Osman

A celebration of life and funeral mass will be held for Leona Veronica Osman, 64, of Williston (formerly of Baker) at ll:00 a. m. Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Baker. Father Thomas Tobin will be officiating. Visitation will take place on Tuesday, May 7, 2013 from 3:00 p. m. to 8:00 p. m. with a Rosary and Prayer Service at 7:00 p. m. at Stevenson Funeral Home in Baker. Private burial will take place at a later date. Leona went to be with her Lord and Savior May 1, 2013. Leona was born December 10, 1949 in Beach, ND. She was the third of five children which Edward and Elizabeth (Marciniak) Susa were blessed with. She grew up and attended schools in Golva and graduated from Baker High School in 1966. She was married to Ernie Putnam in 1968. To this union, three children were born–Scott, Sharae and Mandi. Leona made her home on “the ranch” in the Marmarth, ND area where she enjoyed gardening and, most of all, raising her children. It was there she began her cooking and catering career delivering hot food to the hands out in the field. In September of 1979, Leona was married to Douglas Osman and to this union two more children were added to the family–David and Janalee. They made their home in Baker where they started The Cellar Pizza which they owned and operated until 1986. Leona and Doug followed their culinary passions, which moved them to Idaho, California, and Minnesota. Due to the failing health of Leona’s father, she and Douglas took on the adventure of running the Loft Steakhouse as well as the Green Dragon Lounge. In 2010, Leona moved to Williston to be closer to her sister and continue working in the culinary field as well as taking on new endeavors in the oilfield. She enjoyed singing, cooking, entertaining, staying very active in the Catholic Church and was a very passionate grandmother, mother, sister, friend, and confidant. She taught her children an incredible work ethic but her grandchildren could only be spoiled by her, and her spirit definitely lives on in all of them. Leona is survived by her special friend, Duane, and all of her children, including Scott (Kandi) Putnam, Baker, MT; Sharae Putnam, Baker, MT; Mandi (Stuart) Hurley, Meridian, ID; David (Lacy) Osman, Meridian, ID; Janalee (Kenny) Hunter, Boise, ID. She is also survived by her siblings, Wayne (Betty) Susa, Moscow, ID; Eddy (Carlene) Susa, Baker, MT; Rose Marie (Ron) Johnson, Homestead, FL; and Dorothy (Daryn) Smith, Zahl, ND. She has many grandchildren including Kyle, Bethany, Brittany, Garett, Taylee, Tylon, Mason, Makayla, Khiana, Tate, Madelynn and Felix as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Edward and Elizabeth Susa as well as Ernie Putnam. Mom, being human has a selfish nature which causes us to question why you were taken so soon. However, the Lord has a bigger and better plan for you and we understand it was your duty to go. We know you’ll be with us every step of every day and our darkest hours will be aided by your spirit. We also know there are plenty of people to cook for in heaven, so you best get to work! We love you and will see you when the day of our glory comes. Rest in peace, sweet angel. In light of Leona’s colorful personality, everyone is asked to wear bright colors to the memorial services.
