Leonard Haag

Leonard Julius Haag, 90, of Dickinson, ND died Monday, December 16, 2013 at St. Benedict’s Health Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 p. m. on Thursday, December 19, 2013 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Dickinson with Father Todd Kreitinger as celebrant. Burial willfollow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery. Visitation for Leonard will be held Wednesday, December 18, 2013 from 4:00 p. m. – 7:00 p. m. at Stevenson Funeral Home with a Rosary and Vigil service being held at 6:00 p. m. Visitation will continue on Thursday, December 19th from 9:00 a. m. – 1:00 p. m. at the funeral home. Leonard was born December 26, 1922 in Belfield, North Dakota, eldest son of Anton and Margaret (Martian) Haag. He grew up on the family farm and attended country school, later graduating from Dunn Center High School. Leonard loved the farm life and enjoyed working hard. He worked on the family farm in Emerson (Dunn County) most of his early adult years. It is here that Leonard developed a strong bond to the land and the appreciation of the many seasons of farm life. In 1959, he moved to Dickinson and worked for the highway department for a short time before he became a ranch-hand at the Beckert Ranch west of Killdeer. Leonard later moved to Seattle, WA and worked with the Salvation Army. He had a special gift for helping disabled adults and children and continued to do so even when he later moved to Poulsbo, WA. Leonard earned recognition and awards for his work with the disabled. Those who were lucky enough to know Leonard knew that he was quite the character, with a heart of gold. He was always quick to help others and very giving of his time. He could put a smile on your face and bring sincere warmth to your heart. Leonard was an avid reader, keeping abreast of political forethoughts, and he always enjoyed a good card game of whist. He retired in 1994 and became a resident of Pioneer Haven, later moving to St. Benedict's Health Center in Dickinson. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and the Eagles Club. Leonard is survived by three brothers, Leo V. Haag II of Dickinson; Louis (Eliane) Haag of Callahan, FL; Roger (Diane) Haag of San Tan Valley, AZ; three sisters, Eva Duletski of Bismarck, ND; Lorraine (Ed) Binstock of Dickinson; Jeanette (Norman) Eggebraaten, Fisher, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Leo Haag I and Phillip Haag; four sisters, Eleanor Oen, Barbara Haag, Elaine Karsky, Rosemary Haag. May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed through the mercy of Almighty God rest in peace. Amen.
