Leota Elkins, 83, rural Richardton, died Thursday, November 9, 2006, at her home. Visitation with a closed casket will be Sunday at Price-Murphy Funeral Home from 1 p. m. to 5 p. m. Visitation will continue at Our Saviour’s Lutheran church at 6 p. m. with a prayer service at 7 p. m. Interment will be 12:30 p. m. Monday, November 13, 2006 in Pioneer Cemetery, rural Taylor, ND. Memorial services will be 2 p. m. Monday, November 13, 2006, at Our Saviour?s Lutheran Church, Dickinson, with the Rev. Noel Vold officiating. Leota Walz was born April 27, 1923, to Ferdinand and Emilie (Bieber) Walz, near Java, South Dakota. She attended Northern Lutheran Academy in Mobridge from 1935 to 1940 and Northern State Teacher College, Aberdeen, SD where she received BS degrees in teaching and music. She taught rural and secondary school. Leota had a pilot?s license and enjoyed flying. She worked for United Airlines in Denver from 1959 to 1964. Leota married Robert H. Elkins on January 1, 1964 in Denver. They farmed near Richardton where she continued to live at the time of her death. Robert died August 17, 1995. Leota was a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, God?s Mighty Handful Puppet Team, WMF, Gideon?s, Tuesday Morning Bible Study, and was a Sunday school teacher. Leota is survived by: her son, John Robert Elkins, Richardton; and two brothers, Norwin (Darlene) Walz, Java, SD and Orville (Delores) Walz, Bowdle, SD. Her husband and parents preceded her in death. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to: Heartland Hospice, 30 West 7th Street, Dickinson, ND 58601; The Gideons International, Taylor Gideon Camp, Box 1462, Dickinson, ND 58601 or AFLC World Missions, 3110 East Medicine Lake Blvd, Minneapolis, MN 55441.
