Funeral services for Lester Olheiser, 75, of Dickinson, will be 10:00 a. m. Thursday, November 14, 2013 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Dickinson, ND with Father Kregg Hochhalter celebrating. Burial will follow in St. Wenceslaus Cemetery.
Visitation will be 1:00 p. m. to 9:00 p. m. Wednesday, November 13th at Stevenson Funeral Home, with a Rosary and Vigil Service being held at 7:00 p. m.
Following a courageous battle with cancer, Lester passed away Sunday, November 10, 2013 surrounded by his family at St. Luke’s Home in Dickinson.
Lester Alvin “Butch” was born June 11, 1938 in Dickinson, the son of John P. and Josephine (Horan) Olheiser. He grew up and attended school at St. Joseph’s, Dickinson, and Dickinson Central Schools. Following school, he began working for Cloverdale which later became Western Dairies. On July 18, 1955, Les married Martha Ficek and the couple was blessed with six children. He later began working for Burlington Northern Railroad where he proudly worked until his retirement. Martha passed away in 1997. Les later met Judy Polanchuk and they were married in 2002. During retirement, Les served as a bus driver for Dickinson Public Schools. He lived his life to the fullest. Les rarely missed his daily trip to the West River Community Center. He enjoyed attending rodeos, hunting and fishing with his grandkids, and playing pinochle and bingo. He was also an avid Packer fan. Les never lost his sense of humor, no matter how difficult things got in life. Lester was a member of St. Anthony Club and the Degree Team of German Hungarian.
Les is survived by his wife, Judy; son, Randy (Rena) Olheiser; daughters, Brenda Olheiser, Cindy (Ron) Koffler, Becky Olheiser, JoLin Peck all of Dickinson, and Sue (Tom) Schouweiler of Bismarck; step-children, Melanie (Troy) Hoff and Chris Skjelvik of Dickinson; 13 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren with one on the way and 2 step-grandchildren; brothers, Ronald (Bev) Olheiser of Dickinson and John Olheiser of South Heart; sisters, Josephine (Aron) Scheeler of Mott, Shannon (Paul) Backer of Bismarck, and Janice (Kent) Lynne of New Leipzig.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John P. and Josephine Olheiser; wife, Martha; brother, Ted; sisters-in-law, Bernice and Georgianne; mother and father-in-law, Joe and Minnie Ficek; brothers-in-law, Wilfred and Richard.
