Funeral service for Lillian Christina Louise Kreis, 94, of Hebron, will be 10:30 a. m. CDT, Friday, August 1, 2014 at St. John United Church of Christ in Hebron with Pastor Gaylund Olson officiating. Burial will take place at 1:30 p. m. CDT in the Evangelical Congregational Cemetery. Visitation for Lillian will be from 9:30 a. m. to 10:30 a. m. , Friday, August 1 at St. John United Church of Christ in Hebron. Lillian passed away Sunday, July 27, 2014 at Marion Manor in Glen Ullin. Lillian Christina Louise Birkmaier was born June 30, 1920 in Hebron, ND, the daughter of Paul and Emily (Jaeger) Birkmaier. She grew up and attended country school south of Hebron. Lillian later began boarding and working in town to help her stay in school and graduated from Hebron High School in 1938. She went on to attend one year at Dickinson State Teachers College. On December 13, 1939, Lillian and Christ Kreis were united in marriage in Hebron. To this union two children were born: Phyllis and Russell. Together, the family moved to Crookston, MN and later to Dickinson. Several years later, Lillian and Christ purchased the Pete Ding farm south of Hebron. The couple retired from farming in 1976 and moved to Dickinson. In 2006, Lillian moved into the Marion Manor Apartments and continued to live there until she entered the nursing home in 2011. Lillian spent many hours volunteering her time with various organizations. She enjoyed traveling and camping. Lillian especially loved her travels to Colorado and Alaska. She enjoyed her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren. Lillian was a member of St. John United Church of Christ and the Happy Homemakers in Hebron. Lillian is survived by her children, Phyllis (Roger) Leutz, and Russell (special friend Juanita Loseth) Kreis both of Hebron; three grandchildren, Tom (Lori) Leutz, Steve Leutz, and Michelle (Jeff) Novak; six great-grandchildren, Weston Leutz, Evan Novak, Dylan Leutz, Sawyer Novak, Joshua Leutz, and Rachel Novak; sisters, Esther Birkmaier and Louise (Dean) Barker both of Seattle, WA; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Christ; brothers, Edmond and Paul; and sister-in-law, Helen Birkmaier.
