A Funeral service for Llewellyn H. Hanson, 89, Mathis, TX will be 10:00 a. m. , Wednesday, October 15, 2014 at Stevenson Funeral Home in Ekalaka with Pastor Gary Henderson officiating. Burial will take place in the Beaver Lodge Cemetery. Visitation for Llewellyn will be 3:30 p. m. to 7:00 p. m. on Tuesday, October 14, 2014at Stevenson Funeral Home. Llewllyn passed away October 8, 2014 at Live Oak Nursing Center in George West, Texas. Llewellyn was born May 4, 1925 in Bison, SD, the son of James and Elsie (Knutson) Hanson. He grew up and attended country schools in Perkins County, SD, graduating from Bison High School in 1942. Lew moved to Box Elder to work for his brother, Bud Hanson. In 1946, he was drafted into the US Army and served for 18 months. Lew was honorably discharged in 1947. He received the WWII Victory Medal and the Army Occupation Medal. Llewellyn returned to SE Montana where he worked for various ranches. He met and married Betty Owen on October 10, 1949. Together they raised three children, Judy, Owen and Carla. During his early years, he enjoyed working on his brother’s ranch and being a cowboy. Throughout his life, he was a part of various business ventures which include, mining, oilfield service, gravel hauling, gold jewelry store ownership (just to name a few). The family made their home in western SD, eastern MT, WY, UT, AZ and TX. He enjoyed woodturning, listening and playing music, being around people, especially his family. He never met a stranger who he couldn’t drum up a conversation with. Llewellyn is survived by his wife of 65 years, Betty of Mathis, TX; daughters, Judy Hanson of Reston, VA and Carla Ferguson of Mathis, TX; son, Owen (Debbie) Hanson of Reno, NV; brother, “Bob” Hanson of Bison, SD; six grandchildren, Lisa, Leslie, Brock, Josh, Mary Ann, Travis and three great-grandchildren, August, Annika and Kainen. He is preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Gen Karns, Mildred Byre, and young sister, Evelyn; brothers, Bud Hanson and twin, Leland Hanson.
