Funeral services for Lloyd Selle, 90, of Halliday, ND are to be held at 10 a. m. , Monday, September 22, 2008 at Our Savior?s Lutheran Church, Halliday, ND with Pastor Joel Saurwein officiating. Burial to follow in the Spring Creek Cemetery, Halliday, ND. Visitation will be 10 a. m. to 5 p. m. Saturday, September 20, 2008 at Stevenson Funeral Home, Dickinson and continues 11 a. m. to 3 p. m. , Sunday, September 21, 2008 at Stevenson Funeral Home, Dickinson. A prayer service will be held at 7 p. m. , Sunday, September 21, 2008 at Our Savior?s Lutheran Church, Halliday, ND. Lloyd passed away Wednesday, September 17, 2008 at St. Joseph Health Center, Dickinson, ND, in the love and presence of his family. John McLloyd Selle was born February 26, 1918 the son of John and Marie (Dalen) Selle on the family farm south of Halliday, ND. He attended the Big Flat Country School thru the 8th grade. Lloyd boarded at the Halliday Hotel so that he could complete his education and graduated from the Halliday High School in 1937. He then attended the Bottineau School of Forestry and paid for his schooling by working in the harvest fields of the Red River Valley. Due to the war, he moved to CA where he worked for Lockheed Aviation in the Research and Development Departments. He was very proud of helping to design the first ejection seat for fighter airplanes. In the fall of 1949, Lloyd returned to North Dakota where he began working with his father in the IH Implement Dealership in Halliday, ND. He became owner of the dealership in 1952. They sold the full line of International tractors, trucks, farm equipment and refrigerators. As electricity was just coming thru the area, many in the area purchased their first refrigerators and freezers. During the winter, Lloyd delivered many refrigerators and freezers on skies due to the heavy snows. On February 17, 1964 Lloyd and Luann Wasem were united in marriage in Bismarck, ND. Together, they operated the Selle Implement Dealership until the present time spanning over fifty years of service to the area. Lloyd enjoyed attending air shows and selling farm equipment. He was a very private and quiet person, yet he loved and enjoyed his family, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Lloyd is survived by: wife, Luann, Halliday, ND; son, Charles LaPierre, Halliday,ND; daughter, Lois (Stan) Charging, Minneapolis, MN; grandchildren, Crystal (Shannon) Sickler, Dickinson, ND, Cynthia (James) Chestnut, Dickinson, ND, Clayton (Brenda) LaPierre, Halliday, ND, Casey, Sarah, Stephanie and Danielle Charging, Minneapolis, MN, Shadd, Shauna and Shanyce Fredericks , Christopher and Emilie Sickler, Tate Lloyd LaPierre; brother, Robert (Maxine) Selle, Eugene, OR; sister, Christine Selle, San Francisco, CA; sisters-in-law; Alma Selle, Dickinson, ND, Betty Selle, Dodge, ND and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by: both parents, brothers, Milton (Mildred) Selle, Kenneth and Hjalmer Selle.
