The Mass of Christian Burial for Lloyd A. Zeren, 96, New England, ND is at 10 a. m. , Tuesday, January 9, 2007, at St. Mary?s Catholic Church, New England, with the Rev. Basil Atwell, OSB celebrating. Internment is in St. Mary?s Cemetery, New England. Visitation is from 12-3 p. m. on Monday at Stevenson Funeral Home, Dickinson, and from 4-7 p. m. at St. Mary?s with a rosary and vigil service at 7 p. m. Visitation continues at the church one hour prior to services. Lloyd passed away on Friday, January 5, 2007 at St. Benedict?s Health Center, Dickinson. Lloyd A. Zeren was born on September 20, 1910, at New England, the son of Philip and Mary (Pawlitschek) Zeren. He attended grade school in a rural school in Strehlow Township and later attended St. Mary?s School where he presently was the oldest living alumnus (Class of 1928). On May 10, 1937 he married Margaret Olson. Lloyd?s real passion in life was owning and operating a wheat farm which started in 1940 when he purchased his parents homestead and continued to farm this land for many years. In his early years Lloyd worked at Simmons Hardware. In 1941 he and his partner Paul Gardner purchased the Pletan Hardware Store and established Gardner and Zeren Hardware which after 40 years, he sold in 1981. Because of his belief in catholic education, Lloyd supported St. Mary?s Church and School Foundation and was actively involved serving as trustee and other positions for many years. He was a Fourth Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus, Fireman with the New England Fire Department from 1939 to 1986. and lifetime member of the Elks. He also supported the Theodore Roosevelt Foundation. He is survived by one son Dwile Zeren, Lisbon, ND, one daughter and son-in-law, DeEtta and Roger Dorval, Dickinson; three grandchildren Steve Dorval, Mandan, ND, Mike Dorval, Maple Grove, MN, Dan (Tracy) Dorval, Otsego, MN; 2 great-granddaughters Isabella and Alaina Dorval; 2 sisters, Sister M. Eleanore, Mankato, MN, Lorraine Utter, Rapid City, SD; 2 brothers, Sylvester Zeren, Boulder, CO, Leo Zeren, New England, ND and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Margaret; his parents, 2 sons Ronald and Donald and brother Art. Donations may be made to St. Mary?s Foundation.
