Lois Schafer

Funeral service for Lois Schafer, 91, of Dickinson, formerly of Calvin, ND will be 2:00 p. m. , Thursday, June 19, 2014 at Stevenson Funeral Home, Dickinson. Cremation has taken place with Stevenson Funeral Home and Crematory in Dickinson. Visitation will take place from 10:00 a. m. to 2:00 p. m. , Thursday, June 19, at Stevenson Funeral Home. Lois passed away, Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Health Center in Dickinson. Lois Elinor Henderson was born December 13, 1922 in Calvin, ND, the daughter of William and Inga (Odden) Henderson. She grew up and attended schools in Calvin, graduating from high school in 1940. She went on to attend one year of Business College in Fargo, ND. Lois moved back to Calvin and worked for several years. On June 25, 1948, Lois married Edwin Schafer in Calvin. To this marriage six children were born: Barry, Brett, Janell, John, Darci, and Dara. Together the couple lived on a farm east of Calvin and raised their children. Lois enjoyed fishing, hunting, baking, and completing jig-saw puzzles; which numbered over 200. She was a member of the Glenila Presbyterian Church in Calvin. After retiring in 1996, Edwin and Lois moved to Dickinson where they made their home ever since. Special thanks to Doug and Becky Ueckert for their friendship and being great neighbors. Lois is survived by her children, son, Barry (Nancy) Schafer of Sentinel Butte and their children: Lisa (Loren) Balkowitsch & Bryce; son, Brett (Janet) Schafer of Bismarck and their children: Nathan (Jessica), Lucas, Abby (Bryce) Thomas, and Jeffrey; daughter, Janell (Bill) Peterson of Center and their children: Sr. Mary Star of Evangelization (Marnee Jo) Peterson, and Mitch; daughter, Darci (Brian) Wold of Aurora, CO and their children: Teddi Jo, Drew, and Quinn; daughter, Dara (Kevin) Langerud of Watford City and their children: Devin (Elizabeth), Daylen, Dillon and Kara; John’s son, Layne of Sidney, MT; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edwin; son, John; one brother; and three sisters.
