Lois passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 7, 2008 at Quality Personal Care in Baker, MT. Lois Joy Zupanik was born November 20, 1927 in Baker, MT the daughter of Samuel J. and Daisy (Croninger) Barkley. She grew up on the family farm south of Baker, attending country school at Willard, and graduated from Baker High School in 1945. She then attended the University of Montana in Missoula. On November 20, 1948, she married Albert Klauzer in Baker. To this union Deb, Bernice, Wade and Jean were born. They lived on a ranch north of Mill Iron in Carter County where they raised cattle, Shetland ponies, and quarter-horses. Lois rode by horse back and taught at the nearby Hilmont country school for a while. In 1962, Lois and her children moved to Baker and cared for her father until his death in 1965. She and the children then moved to Terry, MT where Lois worked in the ASCS Office and raised her children there until 1973. She cherished these memorable years of her children?s school activities and living on the hobby farm on the hill outside of Terry with their assorted farm animals, pets and her large garden. On January 28, 1968, Lois married Ted Zupanik of the Baker area in Lewistown, MT. From Terry, they moved to Ted?s ranch south of Baker in Carter County in 1973. Ted passed away in May of 1974. Lois stayed on the ranch until 1985, when she moved into Baker to live and take care of her mother, Daisy. They both enjoyed the company of Frosty, their feisty peach Pomeranian. Daisy passed away in March of 1992, at the age of 100. Lois was a true country gal who enjoyed living in the Mill Iron country area living and working on the ranch tending the livestock. She also enjoyed the Webster and Mill Iron country card parties and gathering; making ceramics; and most recently, the many friendships of the Quality Personal Care staff and residents since 2004. Lois is survived by her children, Deb (Dan Finken) Kosbab, Apache Junction, AZ, Bernice (Tom) Buckinham, Brainerd, MN, Wade Klauzer, Baker, MT and Jean (Brad) Culver, Princeton, MN; a sister-in-law, Bea Barkley, Baker, MT; 8 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Daisy, her husband, Ted, her children?s father, Albert Klauzer, and two brothers, Eber Barkley in infancy and Cleo Barkley.
