Loren S. Johnson, 88, Dickinson, formerly of Tioga, ND, died Tuesday, November 8, 2005, at St. Luke?s Home, Dickinson. Funeral services are 10:30 a. m. (ct), Friday, November 11, 2005 at First Lutheran Church, Tioga, ND with Rev. Steven Tangen officiating. Interment will be in United Cemetery, Tioga. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. Loren S. Johnson was born September 27, 1917 in DeLamere, North Dakota to Smith and Mabel (Fedje) Johnson. He was the oldest boy of eleven children and worked hard on the family farm. He graduated from DeLamere High School. After high school, he worked in the CCC and for various farmers in the DeLamere area. He married Eileen Danielson on September 21, 1947. He would tell stories of being a young boy and plowing fields using a team of horses. He played baseball on the DeLamere independent baseball team as an outfielder and catcher. He loved to play baseball with his two sons and would tell many stories of his baseball days. Later he played ball with his grandchildren and enjoyed taking them to the Tioga Park. He was a North Dakota State Golden Gloves Boxing Champion in the mid 1930?s. For many years he kept a boxing speed bag in his basement and would entertain family and friends with his quickness and athletic ability punching the speed bag and jumping rope. During World War II, he worked in the shipyards in Vancouver, Washington. During the late 40?s, and early 50?s, he worked as a carpenter on the Garrison Dam. After leaving the dam, he raised turkeys for one year with his father in DeLamere. He moved to Tioga in 1953 and went to work at the Signal Oil and Gas natural gas processing plant as an operator. He retired in 1980. While in Tioga, he was active in Tioga First Lutheran Church, serving as a Sunday School Teacher for many years and also serving on the Church Council. He volunteered many hours to the church working as a carpenter. He served several years as the secretary/treasurer of the Tioga Recreation Council. He was a skilled finish carpenter and during his retirement, did many jobs for residents of the Tioga area. He was a good dancer and loved to dance with his wife. He moved to Dickinson in 1997. He is survived by: two sons, Dennis (Nancy) Johnson, Dickinson, and Gary (LeNae) Johnson, Williston; grandchildren, Amie (Tony) Digatono, Minneapolis, MN, Chris (Nikki) Johnson, Dickinson, Jennifer (Dennis) Allen, Las Vegas, NV, and Nathan (DeeAnn) Johnson, Chicago, IL; great grandchildren, Isaac Allen and Lauryn Allen; one brother, Donald Johnson, DeLamere, ND, and one sister, Crystal Gillund, Enderlin, ND. He was preceded in death by: his wife, Eileen; parents; five sisters; three brothers, and one grandson, Timothy Loren Johnson. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to: First Lutheran Church, P. O. Box 128, Tioga, ND 58852.
