A Funeral service for Loris Marcusen, 61, of Taylor, will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, December 8, 2012 at Taylor Lutheran Church in Taylor, ND with Pastor Lisa Lewton officiating. A private family inurnment service will be held at the Pioneer Cemetery in Taylor, prior to the memorial service.
Visitation will be 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, December 7, 2012 at Stevenson Funeral Home in Dickinson with a Prayer service being held at 7:00 p.m.
Loris passed away Monday, December 3, 2012 at home, surrounded by her family.
Loris (Vaagen) Marcusen was born June 11, 1951 in Dickinson, the daughter of Merle and Marlys (Pletan) Vaagen. She was raised in Taylor and attended school there, graduating in 1969. Loris was united in marriage to Leon Marcusen on December 30, 1971 in Taylor. Loris was a wonderful mother and a dedicated teacher. She graduated from Dickinson State College in 1976 with a degree in English and Library Science. Loris taught high school English in Richardton, Dickinson, and Killdeer. While teaching, she obtained a master’s degree in School Administration. After completion of her administrative degree, Loris worked at Dickinson State University and for the North Dakota Department of Education. During her years with the state, Loris oversaw the development of the Beginning Teacher Mentoring Program. After touching the lives of many in North Dakota, Loris retired in 2007. She treasured time with her family and she was blessed with a grandson, Ethan, who she adored. Loris was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Dickinson.
Loris is survived by her husband, Leon; son, Dane of Fargo; daughter, Audrey (James) McMacken and their son, Ethan of Dickinson; mother, Marlys Vaagen of Taylor; brother, Garold (Patsy) Vaagen of Harwood, ND; sisters, Carol Gjermundson of Indio, CA, Peggy Vaagen of Mandan, Paula (Ray) Bluemer of Mt. Home, ID and twin sister, Loretta Shipp of Taylor.
She is preceded in death by her father, Merle Vaagen and brother, Miles Vaagen.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for Heartland Hospice.
