Mass of Christian Burial for Louie Braun, 77, of Dickinson, is Tuesday, April 22, 2003, 10:00 a. m. at Queen of Peace Parish with Father David Morman, celebrating. Interment will be at 3:00 p. m. (CT) at North Dakota Veterans Cemetery. Military rites provided by Dickinson Veterans Drill Team. Visitation is Monday from 9:00 a. m. to 9:00 p. m. with a rosary at 7:00 p. m. led by St. Pius Verein followed by a vigil service at Stevenson-Mischel-Olson Chapel.
Louie passed away on Thursday, April 17, 2003, at his home.
Louie was born September 4, 1925, in Schefield, ND to Peter and Bridget (Roeder) Braun. He was raised in the Schefield area, attending school and graduating from High School in 1943. Louie then enlisted with the Merchant Marines in 1945 serving for three years. Following he served in US Army from 1948 to 1950, his tour of duty was in the Pacific area in the Army Transport Division. During his leave he was married to Martha Pribyl on May 9, 1949, in Dickinson. Together the couple moved to his grandfather and father’s homestead south of Dickinson. Louie and Martha moved to Dickinson in 1972, and Louie began working for Heiser Oil delivering propane. In April of 1981, the couple moved to Lake Havasu, Arizona for fourteen years and Louie would still return home to farm during the summers. In 1995, they returned to Dickinson and have made their home here since.
Louie found enjoyment in fishing, bowling, playing cards at St. Anthony’s Club and traveling. He was a member of the St. Anthony’s Club, Knights of Columbus and a past member of St. Pius Verein and German Hungarian Club.
Louie is survived by his wife, Martha of Dickinson, his mother, Bridget of Dickinson; three sons, Tim of Salt Lake City, UT, Pete of Dickinson, Dean of Mesa, AZ; five daughters, Brenda (Mike) Obritsch of Billings, MT, Nancy (Doug) Charles of Mount Sterling, KT, LuAnn (Steve) Roberts of McMinnville, OR, Marla Braun of Dickinson, Kimberly Braun of Grafton, ND; eight grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; four sisters, Mildred Heinle of Dickinson, Florence Voris of Lake Havasu, AZ, Sr. Mary Eugene of Mankato, MN and LaVern Rios of Hungton Beach, CA. He was preceded in death by his father, Peter, three brothers, Henry, Eugene and Ernie.
