He grew up in Dickinson and attended St. Joseph’s Elementary School; later graduating from Dickinson High School. He began working at Parkers Grocery Store at an early age. Louis moved to Seattle, WA, and began working for Boeing Aircraft. Upon moving back to ND, he met his future wife, Luella Rosenburg in Forsyth, MT.   In August of 1942, Louis was drafted into the Army Air Corp; joining four siblings that were serving as well. He was stationed in Phoenix, the Philippines and spent 30 days on a transport ship awaiting orders to invade Japan.  After being honorably discharged in February 1946, Louis returned to North Dakota and began working for the North Dakota Department of Transportation.  On April 22, 1946, Louis and Luella were united in marriage at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Dickinson.   The couple made their home in Dickinson where they raised their six children.

Louis was a hard worker.  After long days at work, he spent hours building the family home which they live in to this day.   After 36 years of employment, Louis retired and spent many winters in Arizona with his wife.

Louis enjoyed playing and watching baseball.  He loved spending time outdoors hunting, fishing, and bird watching.  Louis was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, and the German-Hungarian Club.  Louis enjoyed dancing, and listening to old time music.
