Funeral Service for Louise (Crowley) Bowen, 96, of Tacoma, WA, will be held at 2:00 PM MST, Monday, January 23, 2012 at Stevenson Funeral Home, Dickinson, ND. Burial will follow at the Dickinson Cemetery.
Louise passed away January 7, 2012 at her home in Tacoma, Washington.
Louise Shoemaker Crowley was born May 3, 1915 in Bushkill PA, to parents Matt and Pauline (Shoemaker) Crowley. She was the oldest of three daughters, growing up on the ranch homesteaded north of Hebron on Elm Creek. The one room school nearby provided an excellent education augmented by parents who instilled a desire to learn in their daughters. After graduating from Hebron High School, Louise attended Jamestown College 2 years and graduated from UND in 1937. She worked 4 years at Iowa State College, Ames, IA. Louise married Jesse William Bowen July 7, 1941 at the family home in Hebron, ND. Bill’s medical skills were put to use with the Army Air Corps, then after the war, he specialized in eye surgery, finally settling in Tacoma, WA where he established his medical practice. Bill and Louise traveled extensively to many corners of the world, golfing and enjoying trips with friends and family. Bill died on one such trip in England in 1979. Louise loved gardening and the outdoors, evidenced by the flowers at her home in Tacoma. She was a member of Tacoma Country Club, Nature Conservancy, Tacoma Humane Society, and Garden Club.
Louise was preceded in death by her parents, Matt and Pauline Crowley; husband Dr. Bill Bowen; and sister Jean Cambridge.
Survivors include sister Sheila Robinson, Bismarck; nieces Jan (Robinson) Jensen, Mooresville NC; Susan (Cambridge) Harris, Santa Barbara, CA; and nephews Robert Cambridge, Arlington, VA; Matthew and Stephen Robinson, Coleharbor, ND.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the ND Cowboy Hall of Fame, Medora ND, in honor of Louise’s father Matt Crowley.
