Funeral service for Luann Selle, 89, of Halliday, will be 10:30 a. m. , Monday, July 25, 2011 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Halliday with Pastor Joel Sauerwein officiating. Burial will be in the Our Saviors Lutheran Cemetery in Halliday. Visitation for Luann will be from 10:00 a. m. to 9:00 p. m. , Sunday, July 24, 2011 at Stevenson Funeral Home in Dickinson, with a Prayer service taking place at 7:00 p. m. Luann passed away Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at her home in Halliday, surrounded by loving family members. Luann Wasem was born May 4, 1922 in Halliday, ND, the daughter of Maurice and Hilma (Gaebe) Wasem. She grew up and attended school and played basketball in Halliday, graduating from Halliday High School in 1940. She attended one year of college at Dickinson State College in Dickinson. Luann then moved to Chicago where she resided with her aunt and uncle while she was employed in an ammunition factory. She was married to Edward LaPierre. To this union a son, Charles, was born. Luann and Charles moved back to the Halliday area where she purchased a dry cleaning business and operated it for several years. She also worked as a bookkeeper at the Halliday Union Bank. Luann then began working at Selle Implement as a bookkeeper. A courtship began with Lloyd Selle and they were united in marriage on February 17, 1964. To this union a daughter, Lois, was born. Together they operated Selle Implement until 2008. Their son continues to operate the business today. Luann loved spending time at the family cabin at Mahto Bay where they fished and enjoyed their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They always had an open invitation for anyone to come out to the cabin. Luann was very involved with Our Savior?s Lutheran Church, and could be found making quilts for the church. She was also involved with the Halliday Jayceettes, Lions Club and many other city activities. Luann served on the board that brought the health clinic to Halliday. Even after moving to Dickinson, she kept up on all of the news in Halliday and was always concerned with the welfare of Halliday. Luann is survived by her son: Charles LaPierre of Halliday, ND; daughter, Lois Selle of Crystal, MN; seven grandchildren, Crystal (Shannon) Sickler of Dickinson, Cynthia (James) Chestnut of Dickinson, Clayton (Dant?) LaPierre of Halliday, as well as Casey, Sarah, Stephanie and Danielle Charging all of Crystal, MN; three great-grandchildren, Christopher and Emilie Sickler of Dickinson and Tate Lloyd LaPierre of Halliday; one brother, Charles (Agnes) Wasem of Sun City West, AZ; two sisters, Dorothy Hess of Cheyenne, WY and Hilma Joyce (Richard) Mann of Lacy, WA; three sisters-in-law, Theresa Wasem of Dickinson, Lenora Wasem of Dickinson and Lorraine Wasem of Aberdeen, SD; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Maurice and Hilma Wasem; husband, Lloyd Selle and three brothers, Leslie, William and Maurice Wasem. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Badlands Ministries, or a charity of your choice.
