Lucille Flyberg was born on March 9, 1929 to John and Lula Elizabeth (Pulvermacher) in Sherwood, ND, the second of seven children. She grew up in New England, ND and attended New England High School; graduating in 1947. She frequently spoke of her childhood memories on her parent’s farm with her siblings.  She had fond memories of taking care of chickens, gardening and all that goes with family and farm life. Immediately following graduation, Lucille began her 37 year career as an elementary school teacher. She spent the first 16 years of her career teaching in various one room school houses throughout the Slope and Hettinger County area. Lucille married Lowell Austin on March 3, 1949 in Miles City, MT. They lived on the Austin Ranch for the first years of their marriage until the family moved to New England.  This is where she spent her final 21 years of her career with the New England Public School; teaching the fourth grade. Lucille loved children and animals. She had a competitive spirit from a young age to her senior years and she enjoyed a good ball game or race.

In 1974, Lucille earned her bachelor’s degree from Dickinson State College. After retiring, the couple moved to a farm west of New England where she resided for nearly 20 years.
Lucille was a resident of Brookdale Spring Meadows in Bozeman, MT at the time of her death.

Lucille is survived by her children, Jerry (Bev) of Hernando, FL, Gae (Steve) Bjorklund of Bozeman, MT and Luanne (Gregg) Austin of Boulder, CO; sisters, Gladys Goudy and Betty Miller; brothers Ralph Flyberg, Melvin Flyberg, and Dale Flyberg; five grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.
