Lucille passed away on Wednesday, May 8, 2019 at St. Benedict’s Health Center in Dickinson.

Lucille Mae (Jones) Jacobs was born in Havelock North Dakota on February 28, 1926 to Murrill and Minnie (Kunze) Jones.

She attended country school in Havelock, New England Public High School and Dickinson State Teachers College.  She was only eighteen, and had done a summer of college when she got her first teaching job at Darling Springs School.  Her next job was at Havelock country school, where she taught her younger sisters. She then taught 7
th
and 8
th
grade at Regent school.

She married Gerard Jacobs on June 9, 1949 and moved to their farm in Wagendorf Township, where they lived for 35 years.  They then lived in Regent for 34 years and moved to Benedict Court in 2017.

Lucy was a teacher all her life, even though she was not always in a classroom.  She was a 4H leader for many years, taught CCD, and volunteered in the Regent school. She coached the math meet team for many years.   The Badlands Area Council named her a Friend of Education in 1990.

Lucy believed in community, and volunteerism.  She served on the Social Services board for Hettinger County, was a 4H judge and a most reliable church lady in St Henry’s Guild.

As a homemaker and cook she was famous for her doughnuts and elephant tracks.  For many years, she made elaborate wedding cakes professionally.  She was adventurous, and loved travel.  Her first trip was a drive to Mexico City with girlfriends in the summer of 1948, and her last trip was to Green Valley AZ in the winter of 2017.

Lucy could butcher a chicken, make bread, sew a quilt, and can everything from tomatoes to pheasant.   She kept up with the changes in technology with her own computer, email, ipad and cell phone.  She never stopped learning, and kept her mind active with reading and puzzles.

Lucy was determined; Lucy was playful and loved to tease.  She worked hard, and was open to new people, places, foods and experiences.  She took a hot air balloon ride when she was in her 70’s.  Family gatherings for both the Jacobs and Jones families were important to Lucy.  She loved her family, their spouses (the outlaws), and her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She was preparing to celebrate 70 years of marriage to the love of her life, Jerry Jacobs, when she passed away on May 8
th
.   She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Wayne, Glenn and Virgil, and her grandchildren Jacob and Julia Braden.

She is survived by Jerry and her five children: Lance (Michelle McCormack), Regent; Linda (Robert Marquardt) Sheboygan, WI; Wanda (Lonnie) Braden, Bartlett, IL; Greg (Theresa) Jacobs, Austin, MN; and Nancy (Steve) Appenzeller, Broomfield, CO.  She had 15 grandchildren, (Ben, Taya, Andy, Dominic, Jenn, Jacob, Justine, Julia, Matthew, Jared, Alex, Joshua, Laura, Peter, and Lauren:  and five great grandchildren, Ava, Rowan, Escher, Quinn, and Finley. She is also survived by her brother, Don (Peggy) Jones of Dickinson, and sisters Doris Erickson, New England, and Lois (Randy) Rustad, of WA
