A Funeral Mass for Ludwig Karsky, 85, of Dickinson, will be 10:00 a. m. , Monday, March 11, 2013 at Queen of Peace Catholic Church with Father Russ Kovash celebrating. Entombment will follow at the Dickinson Mausoleum. Military Rites will be presented by the Dickinson Honor Guard.
Visitation for Ludwig will be 5:00 p. m. to 8:00 p. m. on Saturday, March 9th at Stevenson Funeral Home with a Rosary service being held at 7:00 p. m. Visitation will continue on Sunday, March 10th from 1:00 p. m. to 6:00 p. m. at Stevenson Funeral Home with a Rosary and Vigil service being held at 3:00 p. m.
Ludwig passed away Thursday, March 7, 2013 at St. Luke’s Home in Dickinson.
Ludwig was born August 16, 1927, in Dickinson, the son of Frank and Emma (Marsh) Karsky. He was raised north of Dickinson and attended country school. In 1946, he enlisted into the US Army. After his honorable discharge, Ludwig returned to Dickinson where he met and married Martha Kovash on June 7, 1948 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church. To this union was born, Joan, Karen and Sherri. The family farmed south of Manning until 1960 at which time they moved into Dickinson. Ludwig began working at Dickinson Lumber and later Bosch Lumber. Ludwig and Martha purchased an Abstract Company which they renamed Queen City Abstract. He continued to work until the time of his death. Ludwig enjoyed playing cards (especially pinochle) and listening to old time music. He taught his family the tradition of how to butcher and render lard. Ludwig especially loved and enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and attending all the events they were involved in. Ludwig was a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and 4th Degree Knight, POE of Elks, POE of Eagles, KD Catholic Workman Hall of New Hradec, and Chezch Heritage.
Ludwig is survived by his children, Joan (Glen) Sickler of Gladstone, Karen (Burt) Melchior and Sherri (Robert) Sykora of Dickinson; seven grandchildren, Stacy (Tim) Steffan of Manning, Lynn (Jonathan) Betlaf and Melissa (Todd) Krehlik of Dickinson, Jason (Monica) Melchior of Glendive, MT, Greg (Summer) Melchior of Dickinson, Nicole (Arlan) Anderson of White Earth, ND, and Corey Melchior of Dickinson; 16 great-grandchildren; brothers, Frank Karsky and Edward (Gina) Karsky of Dickinson, Albert (Hazel) Karsky of Chiefland, FL; brother-in-law, Albert Sadowsky of Dickinson; sisters, Tillie (Robert) Volesky of Dickinson, sisters-in-law, Mary Karsky of Alexandria, MN, and Margaret Karsky of Clinton, MN.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Martha; sister, Elsie Sadowsky, brothers, Laudie and Otto Karsky.
