A Funeral Service for Luella Klein, 94, of Dickinson, formerly of New England, will be 4:00 p. m. , Sunday, May 1, 2011 at First Congregational Church in Dickinson with Pastor Janel Kolar officiating. Burial will be in the New England Cemetery in New England. Luella passed away Thursday, April 28, 2011 at St. Joseph?s Hospital and Health Center in Dickinson. Luella Evelyn Johnson was born December 10, 1916, in Hettinger County, the daughter of Evan and Anettie (Olson) Johnson. She grew up on the family farm and attended school in New England, graduating from New England High School in 1935. Luella went on to attend Dickinson Teachers College where she received her teaching degree. She taught in rural country schools in Odessa Township and Kern Township in Hettinger County and later Slope County. On December 18, 1938, she married John Klein at the home of Bertha and Devene Sorenson. To this union four children were born: Jeanette, Lois, James and Lori. Together, the couple farmed and ranched in Slope County all of their lives. In 1979, the couple moved to New England where they resided for many years. After the death of John in 1995, Luella made her home at Park Ave Villa in Dickinson. Luella enjoyed bowling, traveling, and square dancing. She also enjoyed raising chickens and geese, playing cards, baking and cooking. Luella was a member of the Pierce Congregational Church in Scranton and New England United Church of Christ where she was a member of the Women?s Fellowship Committee for both congregations. When she moved to Dickinson, she became a member of the First Congregational Church. Luella is survived by one son, James (Diane) Klein of New England; three daughters, Jeanette (Gordonna) Toepke of New Salem, Lois Stafford of New England and Lori (Ron) Sticka of Dickinson; 18 grandchildren, Tamara Toepke-Floyd, Brenda Rekow, Colette Kilber, Melisa Peterson, Kimberly Dixon, Shannon Stafford, Myles Stafford, James Stafford, Jonathan Stafford, Sarah Doe, Valerie Kunze, Lavae Klein, Michael Klein, Erik Klein, Christina Sticka-Jacobs, Jessica Khan, Samuel Sticka and Amanda Sticka; 30 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, John; her parents, Evan and Anettie Johnson; one granddaughter, Sherry Jo Toepke; one great-grandson, Daniel Stafford; one son-in-law, Lawrence Stafford; five brothers and eight sisters.
