Luella passed away September 27, 2024 at CHI St. Alexius in Dickinson.

Luella Kowis was born on April 6, 1937 in Dickinson. She grew up in Killdeer going to Killdeer Public Schools. Lou met Harold Sandvick and they married in Killdeer. After they were married, they moved around to several different ranches. The two ended up ranching behind the Killdeer Mountains where she helped on the ranch.

In the 80’s, Lou and Harold moved into town where they lived together until Harold’s passing in 1995. Lou continued to enjoy Killdeer as her home and moved into Legacy Lodge in 2020. She enjoyed animals, children and all the Killdeer community had to offer. Lou made friends with everyone everywhere. She enjoyed all her events at Legacy and played bingo daily. Any chance she had time to sit and visit over food and fellowship, she’d take it. Coffee and watching friends play cards and shake dice with her friends were some of her favorites.

Luella is survived by her son, Marty (Denise) Sandvick of Killdeer; sisters, Violet (Cooper) Wise of FL., Edna Staudenmaier of TN, Opal Knocks of MO; sister in laws, Marilyn Kowis of WI, Ruth Sandvick of Dickinson. Grandkids, Cassandra (Jeramiah) Sandvick - Brickler of OH, Anastasia (John) Sandvick, Kelly (Kenneth) Parker, Jonathon (Amanda) Parker; several great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; nieces & nephews. Her special extended family, the Todd family of AZ/ND, Stephanie (Ed) Ledesma and daughter Brynn (Lou’s little girl) Ledesma, Deb Peters and the Roundy family.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Harold Sandvick; her parents Martin and Betty Kowis, brothers, Melvin (Caroline) Kowis, Donald Kowis.
