Funeral services for Lydia Reich, 86, Dickinson will be 1 p.m., Thursday, February 7, 2008, at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Dickinson with Rev. Steven D. Tangen, officiating. Interment will be the Dickinson Cemetery, Dickinson. Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, February 6, 2008, at Stevenson Funeral Home, Dickinson. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the church. Lydia Reich passed away on Wednesday, January 30, 2008 at the Barb Enney Foster Care, Burlington, ND. Lydia Ackerman was born on February 22, 1921, near Streeter, ND to Jacob and Katherina (Stroh) Ackerman. She received her elementary education in a rural school and grew up to womanhood in that vicinity. She married Reuben Reich of Medina, ND on January 27, 1946 in Streeter, ND. They lived and farmed between Streeter and Medina area until 1949. They then moved to Jamestown, where Lydia did domestic work and babysitting. In August of 1960, they moved to Dickinson where she worked part time for Helen?s Frock Shop for 18 years and also did cleaning and babysitting for other people. In 1977, she and her husband started the Queen City Taxi. Lydia did the dispatch for the company, which was sold in 1982, due to poor health and to retire. Following the death of her husband on January 8, 1999, she continued to live in Dickinson until 2003, when she was diagnosed with bone cancer. Lydia gave up her apartment in Dickinson in August of 2003, and moved to Minot to live with her daughter. In September of 2007, she entered Barb?s Adult Foster Care in Burlington, ND. Lydia enjoyed flowers, plants, reading, and crocheting. She was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church of Dickinson. Lydia is survived by: one daughter, Vietta (Bernie) Barden, Minot, ND; one son, Rodney (Alice) Reich, Grand Forks, ND; four grandchildren, Roger (Missy) Barden, Tanya Barden, Melissa Earl (finance, Tom Garrad) and Shawn Reich; five great grandchildren, Tyler, Allison, Bryanna, Austin and Garrett; one step grandchild, William; two brothers, Reuben Ackerman, Gackel, ND; and Elmer (Dena) Ackerman, Hutchinson, MN; four sisters, Helen Fischer, Elk Grove, CA, Frieda Wittmier, Steele, ND, Emma Hins, Jamestown,ND and Edna (Norman Niskanen), Mt. Iron, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers and two sisters, one in infancy.
