CDT, Wednesday, September 10, 2008 at the New Salem Auditorium with Pastor Jason Young officiating. He will be laid to a well-deserved rest following the service at the Sims Cemetery, rural New Salem. Visitation will be Tuesday, September 9th from 3:00 to 7:00 p. m. at the New Salem Auditorium. On Friday, September 5, 2008 God called his handyman back home after loaning him to us for 66 years. Lyle was born on April 20, 1942, to Cuno and Esther (Lindstrand) Peterson in Mandan, ND. He grew up on the family farm south of Almont and attended country school. He farmed and learned construction and wiring from his dad, earning his Class B Electrician’s License. He charmed Karen Reetz of Hebron to the point where they eloped on August 25, 1962. They raised 3 children – Lynnae, Kristi and Ricky. Lyle enjoyed spending time with his 8 grandchildren, and he and Karen just celebrated 46 years of marriage. There were few farmyards in the area that Lyle hadn’t visited to fix or build something. It was rare to find something that he couldn’t fix. It was even rarer for him to turn down someone who needed help. On the unusual occasion that he wasn’t working, he liked to hunt, fish and play board games. Lyle is survived by his wife – Karen of New Salem; 3 children – Lynnae (Morgan) Johnson of Martin, Kristi Mutschelknaus of New Salem, and Ricky (Kathie) Peterson of Mandan; eight grandchildren – Ryan, Evan and Lance Willman, Holly, Norah and Cheyenne Mutschelknaus, and Grace and Luke Peterson; one brother – Wesley (Linda) Peterson of Elgin; two sisters – Ardythe Mortenson of Carson, and Marian (Darrel) Nilles of New Salem. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother-in-law, and a son-in-law.
