Funeral Services for Lyle Stanhope, 80, of Baker MT, will be 2:00 p. m. , Friday, August 9, 2013 at the Stevenson Funeral Home in Baker with Pastor Mike Davis officiating. Burial will be in the Bonnievale Cemetery with Military Rites presented by the American Legion Post #35. Visitation will be held on Friday, August 9th from 10:00 a. m. to 2:00 p. m. at Stevenson Funeral Home in Baker. Lyle passed away Sunday, August 4, 2013 at Fallon County Medical Complex in Baker. Lyle Stanhope was born on March 8, 1933 on his grandparents’ place south of Baker. His aunt, Lillye Cate, was the midwife. He attended Baker schools, and at a very young age went to work for E. P. Meffert. At age 18, he was working for Ross and Powers Construction as a semi-truck driver. He also worked for Eldon Bohner hauling crude oil from Little Beaver Oilfield to a Northern Pacific Railroad branch line in Ollie, Montana. He was also a relief Driver for the Highway Post Office in the 50’s and entered the Army in 1953. Lyle was married to Myrtle Hudson on September 8, 1953 in Miles City, Montana. They lived at Fort Lewis, Washington. After Lyle was honorably discharged in 1955, they lived in Dupuyer, Missoula, Harlowton and Bridger following pipeline construction. In October of 1957, they moved to Kingman, Arizona where their first child, Brett Kerry, was born April 25, 1958. In 1957, Lyle graduated from Tulsa Welding School. They then moved back to Baker and they started their own welding business, L & M Welding. It was in Baker that their second child, Allison Paige, was born on June 20, 1967. Lyle retired and sold the welding business in 1982. He then became manager of the Baker Club until ill health demanded he retire. Lyle enjoyed being outside and working in his garden and yard. He was very good at fabricating things, and he designed and built many things over his lifetime. Lyle was a 40 year life member of the American Legion and a 20 year volunteer for the Baker Fire Department. Lyle was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Betty Stanhope and his parents-in-law, Bert and Carol Hudson. Lyle is survived by his loving wife, Myrtle; one son, Brett (Erin) Stanhope and their children, Jason Stanhope, Mariah (Carl) Phea and their daughter Seloria, and Kerry Stanhope, all of Texas; one daughter, Allison (Don) Wyrick and their children, Robert Stanhope of Virginia, Brad (Crystal) Stanhope and their daughter Ashley, Matthew Stanhope and his daughter Aysha, Eric (Jolene) Wyrick and their son Mason, Tyler (Sara) Wyrick and their sons Noah and Wyatt, Mikenna Wyrick and Justin Wyrick, all of Baker. He is also survived by his siblings, Ashley (Elaine) Stanhope, Lane (Robin) Stanhope, Janice Stanhope, Jean (Walt) Hanratty, all of Baker, Dale (Joann) Stanhope and Roger (Judy) Stanhope of California, and Neal (MaryLou) Stanhope of Nevada; and numerous nephews and nieces.
