Funeral Services for Mabel A. Granfor, 89 of Killdeer will be 1:00 p. m. Monday, January 16, 2006 at Normanna Lutheran Church in Dunn Center with Pastor Aanen Gjovik officiating. Burial will follow in the Dunn Center Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday, January 14, 2006 from 3:00 p. m. to 8:00 p. m. at Stevenson-Mischel-Olson Chapel in Killdeer. Visitation will continue on Monday from 8:00 a. m. to 10:00 a. m. at Stevenson-Mischel-Olson Chapel in Killdeer and one hour prior to service at the church. Mabel passed away Friday, January 13, 2006 at Hill Top Home of Comfort in Killdeer. Mabel was born December 2, 1916, on the family farm near Barton, ND, the youngest of three girls to Amund and Marit (Flaaten) Engeland. The family moved to Barton when Mabel was five and it was here she attended school and graduated from Barton High in 1935. She then began her college education at Mayville State University and finished her degree in teaching at Minot State University in 1940. After completion of her degree, she taught at various grade schools including Dunn Center, Wolford, and Werner. On June 24, 1944, she married Lyle Granfor at her parent?s place in Barton, ND. The couple made their home in Dunn Center where they raised their family. Here, Lyle and Mabel owned and operated Granfor Chevrolet for many years. After Lyle passed away on April 22, 1989, Mabel filled much of her time enjoying her family that was such an important part of her life. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mabel was very active in church where she taught Sunday and Bible School. She was also a very active participant in the Parent Teacher Organization. Mabel loved nature, from flowers and birds and especially her own gardening. She was also very fond of music and enjoyed playing the accordion, guitar and piano. She is survived by her two daughters: Norma (Donald) Nodland of Halliday, ND; Ruth Granfor of Dunn Center, ND; two grandchildren: Jennifer (Chris) Lenning of Garrison, ND; Kurt (Lynnette) Nodland of Werner, ND; four great-grandchildren: Aspen, Bradyn, Kadin and Kaile; one sister: Ruth Rossow of Minot, ND; three nephews: Ron (Jeanne) Spragg of Mt. Vernon, WA; Norman (Mary Jane) Spragg of Royal City, WA and Brian (Maxine) Rossow of Minot, ND; and one niece: Maureen (Craig) Homchick, Wenatchee, WA. Mabel was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Lyle; an infant son, Richard; and one sister, Maude Engeland.
