A Funeral Mass for Magdalen “Maggie” Schwindt, 93, of Dickinson, ND, will be 10:00 a. m. , Thursday, November 20, 2014 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Dickinson with Father Keith Streifel celebrating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Visitation for Maggie will be from 1:00 p. m. to 8:00 p. m. , Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at Stevenson Funeral Home with a rosary and vigil service being held at 7:00 p. m. Maggie passed away Sunday, November 16, 2014 at Sanford Health Center, Bismarck, ND. Magdalen Pachl was born July 12, 1921 in Dickinson, ND, the daughter of Frank and Mary (Hanel) Pachl. She grew up and attended country school in the Sheffield area. Maggie later met Anton J. Schwindt. The couple was united in marriage on October 25, 1938 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Dickinson. To this union eleven children were born. Maggie and Anton moved to the Schwindt farm north of New Hradec where they farmed and raised their family. In the early 1940’s, they purchased the Taylor Bar which they operated until moving to Dickinson where they made their home. Together, Maggie and Anton purchased Frankies Sandwich Shop which was later named Maggie’s Café. Maggie operated it until she semi-retired. Maggie resided at Benedict Court for ten years, until moving to Elm Crest Manor in New Salem, ND. Maggie was involved in the Homemakers and was a member of St. Ann’s Alter Society, St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, St. Anthony’s Club, German Hungarian Lodge, and the Eagles Club. She was a very good cook and enjoyed hosting all the family gatherings. Maggie loved to dance and especially enjoyed attending Polka Dances. She enjoyed gardening, tending to her flowers and collecting different kinds of rocks and loved cactus gardening. Maggie is survived by her sons, Arnold (Carol) of Chaska, MN, Ervin (Janice) of Belton, TX, Larry (Debbie) of Mesa, AZ, Dale (Irene) of Mandan, ND, Eugene (Tina) of Dickinson, ND, Mike (Mary Ann) of Dickinson, ND, Jeff (Kathy) of Phoenix, AZ; daughters, Lorraine (Ray) Rykowski of Dickinson, ND, Leona Coutts (Gary) of Bismarck, ND, Renae (Chuck) Stroh of Dickinson, ND, and Pearl (Roger) Roll of Dickinson, ND; and sister, Theresa (John) Benz of Dickinson. Maggie was blessed with numerous grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Mary Pachl; husband, Anton Schwindt; two granddaughters, Sherry & Jessica; and all of her siblings.
