Magdalen “Maggie” Kuhn was born January 12, 1924, in rural Lefor, the daughter of Michael and Magdalena (Dassinger) Herold. She grew up and attended school in Lefor, finishing the 8th grade. She began working at Scheelers grocery store in Dickinson. During WWII, Maggie moved to Seattle to work at the Boeing Aircraft Company in support of the war effort. After the War she returned to Lefor where she worked at the Red & White Store. Maggie met Martin at a dance at the Bayer Hall in Lefor. Maggie and Martin were united in marriage on June 25, 1947. To this union five children were born: Calvin, Glenda, Darrell, Linda and Bruce. Martin and Maggie worked together farming and raising their family southwest of Lefor. In 2002, after 55 years on the farm, Martin and Maggie moved to Dickinson. In 2007 they moved into Park Avenue Villa, and in November 2014 Maggie moved into St. Benedict’s Health Care. Maggie never tired of playing cards. She always had a deck of cards handy and was ready to play! She also enjoyed puzzles, flower gardening, cooking, baking and dancing. One of Maggie’s greatest joys was cooking for her family and friends. When you left her table you were stuffed and smiling. She was always organized and tidy. Maggie’s favorite past time was to get together with her siblings and friends. Her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were her purpose in life. Maggie’s faith in Christ was of the utmost importance to her. Maggie prayed for her family daily, and gave thanks to God before every meal. She was a member of St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church in Lefor, and the Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Dickinson. Maggie is survived by her five children, Calvin (Kim) of Dickinson, Glenda Kuhn of Cody, WY, Darrell (Dorita) of Lefor, Linda (Levi) Krein of Bismarck, and Bruce (JoAnne) of Colorado Springs, CO; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; siblings John Herold, Evelyn Herold, Joe (Phyllis) Herold and Angie Nuss; brother-in-law Roy Carlson and sisters-in-law, Bertha Bayer and Kathy Wittinger.
