As a young man, Marcus worked in Sacramento, CA harvesting spinach, peas and beets, in Fort Peck, MT helping build Fort Peck Dam and Clarissia, MN working at a filling station. One day, Marcus met Ruth Wax in a restaurant. On May 8, 1941, they were married in Staples, MN. They lived on a small farm while Marcus owned and operated the Staples garbage route. He then served in the Army from 1941 to 1945 during WWII as a cook and chef. Back in Regent, Marcus owned and operated his farm and drove school bus until 1975. As the family grew, they moved in 1951, to his grandfather’s (Henry Tormaschy) homestead south of Lefor. They resided there until their retirement in 1980, at which time they moved back to Fergus Falls. In 1983, they moved back to New England and since the fall of 2004, Dickinson has been home for Marcus. He loved to travel and collect antiques. He was active in the community as a member of the American Legion Post 273 of Regent, a member of Zion Lutheran Church of Regent where he was the treasurer, Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church of New England and Peace Lutheran Church of Dickinson, and the Farmers Union Organization.
