A Funeral Mass for Margaret Berger, 95, of Dickinson, will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 13, 2012, at Queen of Peace Catholic Church with Father Shannon Lucht celebrating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Dickinson.
Visitation for Margaret will be 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 12, 2012 at Stevenson Funeral Home in Dickinson with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. led by the Catholic Daughters Court St. Catherine #323 with a Vigil service to follow.
Margaret passed away July 10, 2012 at St. Benedict’s Health Center in Dickinson, ND.
Margaret Berger was born Margaret Mary Armbrust on May 3, 1917, on the family farm near Manning in Dunn County, North Dakota. She was the daughter of Anton and Veronica (Mischel) Armbrust and the sixth of eight children including three brothers and four sisters. Margaret completed her schooling in Dunn County and then worked at her parents’ boarding house in SE Dickinson until she married Lee Berger on May 26, 1936, at St Joseph’s Catholic Church in Dickinson. Margaret spent most of her time as a homemaker and mother to seven children, five girls and two boys. In 1965, she began working at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Dickinson where she worked primarily in the maternity ward and nursery. She remained there for 22 years until she retired in 1987. Following her retirement, she continued with limited child-care services for working parents on a part time basis, for an additional ten years. Margaret assisted in a variety of church fairs and bazaars over the years and was a life-time member of Catholic Daughters of America. She was initially a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and subsequently of Queen of Peace Catholic Church. Margaret and Lee, along with their children, celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary before he passed away in September 2007. Margaret will be remembered as a wonderful and caring mother and homemaker who liked to cook and bake. Her cooking and baking skills were always admired and enjoyed not only by her husband and children but also by her siblings and in-laws and friends. She enjoyed gatherings with her family and friends and just recently celebrated her 95th birthday with them. She will always be remembered for her generosity and love. She was always giving of her time and talents.
Margaret is survived by her seven children, eight grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild. Her children include Shirley and son-in-law Raymond Kudrna in Overland Park, KS; Richard Berger and partner Joan Youmans in Burnsville, MN; Rosella Berger in Sarasota, FL; Rita Loerzel in Dickinson, ND; Angela Klar in San Antonio, TX; Marjorie Berger in Bismarck, ND; and Robert (Bob) Berger in Dickinson, ND. Her grandchildren include Pamela (Jerry) Ford, Kim (Jim) Buck, Greg (Kelly) Kudrna, Lisa (Mike) Olson, Todd (Wendy) Kudrna, Brad Loerzel, Brian (Marisa) Loerzel, and Julie (Matt) Kerper. Her deceased brothers and sisters include George, Anton, and Florian Armbrust and Veronica Hauser, Mary Frank, Rose LaSotta and Ann Nicholas.
