Margaret passed away January 16, 2016 at CHI St. Joseph’s Health in Dickinson. Margaret Friedt Frank was born December 17, 1916, to Jacob and Margaret (Zentner) Friedt at the family home north of Mott, ND. She is the youngest surviving of seven brothers and six sisters. She attended primary school in Hettinger County. From 1936-1938, she worked for St. Mary’s College in Winona, MN. Margaret married Anton (Tony) Frank on October 11, 1938, at St. Placidus Church, northeast of Mott. They lived and farmed with Tony’s parents until 1940, when they purchased their own land 15 miles south of South Heart. In 1959, they bought and moved to the farm previously owned by Sebastian Stoltz a mile south of Dickinson. She also cooked part-time at the Dickinson KC Club. In 1976, Margaret and Tony retired. She resided in Dickinson until the time of her death. Margaret was a faith-filled woman who prayed daily and regularly attended mass, often with a bouquet of flowers from her garden for Mother Mary. They attended church in Sheffield, ND where she was a member of St. Pius Verein and St. Joseph’s in Dickinson where she was a member of the St. Ann’s Society and the Christian Mothers. Margaret tended the earth in her huge vegetable and beautiful “rock” flower gardens, raised chickens, milked cows, cooked and cared for her family. She instilled the values of faith, hard work, and generosity in all her children. Family and friends were always welcome at her home. She enjoyed a good game of pinochle, teaching many of her grandchildren and then great-grandchildren the fine art of playing a good hand. Margaret enjoyed sewing, quilting, applique, embroidering fancy towels and various crafts, but especially crocheting. You can find her beautiful crocheted snowflakes and angels gracing the Christmas trees of family and friends around the world and afghans wrapped around many shoulders. She was also known for her cooking skills, especially her chicken noodle soup and meatballs and gravy, caramel rolls and best ever pie crust and apple pies. All were welcome at her table and they never left hungry. Margaret always enjoyed dancing a good waltz and polka. She also enjoyed traveling to visit family. Margaret never met a stranger, and many times her children were left wondering, “Now who’s she talking to?”Margaret lovingly leaves behind seven children; daughter Verena (Christ) Schmidt of Portland, OR, and grandchildren DeElla, Randy, Dorinda, Sandy, Jolynn, Peggy, Maria and Tomas; daughter, Dolores (Leo) Deis of Regina, Canada, and grandchildren Linda, Tom, Susan and Nancy; daughter Carol (Edward) Hamann of Virginia, and grandchildren Kimberly and Nicole; daughter Arlene Stockert of Bismarck, and grandchildren Rick, Tamra, Vickie and Kristina; son Gerald (Lorraine Miller) Frank of Glendive, MT, and grandchildren Tony, Trenton and Michelle; daughter Norma (Terry) Berg of Wilton, and grandchildren Jay, Tina, Traci and Joseph; daughter Lynette (Steve) Olafson of Dickinson, and grandchildren Katrina and Robert, and step-grandchildren Michael and Katie; 59 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her special niece, Mary Privratsky; special nephews, Marvin (Helen) Friedt, Joseph (Corrine) Friedt; and numerous nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law, Lorraine (Christ) Frank and Martha (Joseph) Frank. Margaret had many “adopted” sisters, children and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tony; two infant sons, Herman and Larry; granddaughter, Jennifer Hamann; great-grandson, Patrick Rew: her parents, brothers, sisters, and numerous relatives.
