Margaret passed away Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at St. Benedict’s Health Center in Dickinson.
Margaret was born in Dickinson on November 6, 1933, to Mary and Joseph J. Polensky and raised on the family farm northwest of Dickinson. She was educated in New Hradec and Dickinson. She married Robert Jablonsky on October 15, 1950, in New Hradec and they raised their family and spent the rest of their lives in Dickinson. Margaret was an accomplished seamstress, having sewn clothing, formals, wedding gowns and quilts for many area residents, who became her friends. She had a passion for her Czech heritage and preserving its traditions. She served the Czech Heritage organization as secretary/treasurer for a number of years, having sang with the Czech Heritage Singers; sewed ornate costumes for its singers, dancers and young dancers; and spent many hours making noodles and baking countless dozens of kolaches (for which she was popular both within and beyond the organization). She represented the Czechs on the board of the Northern Plains Ethnic Festival and was presented an Achievement Award for her service in 2006. Above all, Margaret was a loving, warm and humble wife, mother and grandmother, who valued her faith and showed incredible strength in times of adversity. She enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing, gardening, old time music, dancing, playing cards and spectating at local sporting events, especially those involving her children and grandchildren. She could often be seen out walking with her two beloved pet terriers, Jasper and Coki. She also enjoyed family vacations and traveling with extended family to 35 states, 8 countries and 10 Caribbean islands. She spent the final year of her life in memory care at St. Benedict’s Health Center.
