Margaret Orf

Louise Orf, 85, Elgin, formerly of Grassy Butte, died Friday, September 5, 2003, at Dakota Hills Home, Elgin. Memorial services will be 2 p. m. Friday, September 12, 2003, at Price-Murphy Funeral Home, Dickinson. Margaret Louise Carr was born August 4, 1918 at home near Grassy Butte to Benton L. and Minnie L. Carr. She attended grade school in rural schools near Grassy Butte and high school in Dickinson. She married Jerry Orf on May 22, 1935 in Watford City. She farmed with her husband northeast of Grassy Butte for over fifty years. She also spent several years working as a Farmers Union youth leader. She was active in local and county Farmers Union, homemakers, and the Grassy Butte Methodist Church. Louise was well known for her gardening and sewing skills. Her friends and family were often recipients of her garden produce and sewing talents. She enjoyed raising flowers, writing letters and reading. She learned to use a computer later in life, and corresponded with family and friends by both mail and e-mail. Survivors include two sons: Dale (Doreen) Orf, Grassy Butte, N. D. , Dana (Rochelle) Orf, Los Angeles, Calif. ; Daughter-in-Law, Joyce Orf, Centralia, Wash. ; grandsons: Jerry (Miriam) Kust, Riverview, Fla. , Troy (Wendy) Orf, Olympia, Wash. ; granddaughters: Renate (Jeff) Staroff, Centralia, Wash. , Roxanne Orf, Williston, N. D. , Colette (Shawn) Bilquist, New Leipzig, N. D. , Heather Orf, Bismarck, N. D. , Crystal Orf, Bismarck, N. D. and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by: her husband, Jerry; son, Dennis; four brothers and one sister.
