Marian Gulka, 83, Dickinson, passed peacefully Saturday, June 7, 2003, at St. Joseph?s Hospital & Health Center, Dickinson, with her family by her side. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a. m. Tuesday (TODAY), at St. Joseph?s Catholic Church, Dickinson, with the Reverend Dennis Schafer celebrating. Interment will be in St. Joseph?s Cemetery, Dickinson. Visitation will be held at Price-Murphy Funeral Home on Monday from noon to 9 p. m. with a rosary and prayer service at 7 p. m. Marian was born February 26, 1920, in Dunn County to George and Barbara (Armbrust) Schmidt. She was raised in the Fayette community. She worked on the family farm, for the Little?s at the store in Fayette, for Anna Fischer and then St. Mary?s in Winona, Minn. While working at Adamski?s store in New Hradec, she met John Gulka. They married October 11, 1944, in New Hradec. They lived on the family farm until November 1973, when they moved to Dickinson. Marian was a member of St. Ann?s Auxiliary, where she also held offices; and Christian Mothers, where she was President for 14 years and Catholic Daughters. She was a volunteer at St. Benedict?s Health Center. Marian truly loved to garden and grow flowers. She sewed many quilts and most of her clothes. Marian spent many evenings crocheting and embroidering and was a wonderful cook and great baker. She passed on many cooking traditions. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Marian loved to spend time with her family and cook for them. She will be truly missed by her many friends and family. Marian is survived by: her husband, John J. Gulka, Dickinson; one son, Arnie (Carol) Gulka, Valley City; two daughters, Patricia (Al) Karsky, Minot and Charlotte (Bernard) Ficek, Dickinson; eight grandchildren, Rob (Dawn) Karsky, Pam (Mike) Thomason, Jennifer (Eric) Mehrer, Brian (Laura) Ficek, Tammy (Russ) Fisher, Danielle Ficek, Amanda Gulka and Amy Gulka; 10 great grandchildren, Jonathan and Kristen Thomason, Joseph and Tyler Mehrer, Zachary Karsky, Amanda, Andrew and Ashley Ficek, Allyssa and Hannah Fischer; five brothers, Ray (Marie) Schmidt, Richland, Wash. , Florian (Mildred) Schmidt, Verndale, Minn. , Andrew (Joan) Schmidt, Dickinson, Matthew (Maria) Schmidt, Williston, ND, and George (Liz) Schmidt, Port Lavaca, Tx; three sisters, Rose (John) Anderson, Columbia Falls, Mont. , Tillie Mullen, Rock Springs, Wyo. , and Genevieve (George) Rice, Glendive, Mont. She was preceded in death: by her parents, two brothers, Jerome Schmidt and Phillip Schmidt; and one sister, Lynn Schmidt.
